I ran across this 1936 Philco in really rough condition at the flea market, and decided at first not to get it at any price, then changed my mind. The cabinet is falling apart, and the guy said if he didn't sell it today for a few dollars it was going in the trash when he got home. I made a mistake in the video I meant to say the damaged to the top does go all the way through it has a large hole in it. I thought the tubes and the speaker were worth 3.00, and as an antique should be salvaged from the dump. If the radio can be restored to play the cabinet might be worth trying to salvage. It might be possible to glue and reinforce it inside with braces, and apply a new sheet of veneer to the outside. The front was a photo finish, common on some 1930's radios, and is ruined. It needs replaced, and if not a new painted on photo finsih similar to the original, possibly some veneer could be applied to the front as well. It is in very rough condition, but it still is an antique and I thought it should be salvaged, and not thrown in the dump, anyway Sadie liked it and she got 3.00 worth of entertainment out of it.. + Informações

Philco Model 70 Baby Grand CathedralTube Radio (1931). During the Great Depression this was quite costly being offered at $50. I paid $160 in 2009 for it and was quite pleased how it had been preserved and all original without any modifications. I have no idea what it's worth, but would like to hear a collector's opinion. The Philco Model 70 Baby Grand was first offered for sale in June of 1931, at the same time as its big brother, the model 90. It employed Philco's 7-tube "balanced superheterodyne" chassis, the entry level offering in their line-up of 7, 9 and 11 tube designs for 1931/32. Philco had proven success- ful in the past with their "neutrodyne plus" and "screen grid" plus, and so now came "superheterodyne plus". Although strictly this referred only to their 11-tube sets, they nevertheless used the word "plus" when promoting their lower tube count models, combining it with "balan- ced", another of their favorite words, as seen in the following extract clipped from Baby Grand advertising a superheterodyne receiver PLUS balanced units PLUS balanced tubes. chassis is 35 (RF amp), 24 (mixer/LO), 35 (IF), 27 (rectifier-detector), 35 (detector-amp), 47 (output pentode) and 80 (rectifier). The mixer and LO, which used separate tubes in the earlier chassis, were combined into one self-oscillating type 24 (autodyne) stage and the 2nd detector was reconfigured to use a detector-rectifier and detector-amp for the AVC.. + Informações

This is the Viginia City Radio Museum, also call the Western Historic Radio Museum. Take a looke at nearly one hundred old Vintage Tube Radios in this Museum located in Virginia City, Nevada. Also, check out some my other Pliilco Radio Video of my 1931 Baby Grand Cathedral Radio. The Museum.displays of antique, classic and vintage radios featuring examples of the earliest wireless spark-gap apparatus up to the "kitsch" radios of the early fifties. All displays are arranged in chronological order with detailed descriptions of each radio's history and its importance to radio technology. Included in each display are many other types of radio-related items, such as horn speakers, cone speakers and a mirad of other early radio accessories. There is also a display devoted to early vacuum tubes, (see photo below.) Broadcast microphones, Vibroplex telegraph keys, (see photo below) and early electrical instruments are also on display. Photographs of famous radio personalities are featured throughout the museum, (see photo below.) This was covered in 50 years of dust, chipping and warping and after three months and layers of wax, stain and a new belt for the dial it is now a living room piece from a lost era. This was called a long distance radio and you will see why when you see the video. It has a 12 inch speaker that puts out a bold sound and an awesome internal anterna. Al was born Durban, Natal, South Africa on January 7, 1899 and killed by the explosion of a parachute mine in London on April 17, 1941 After touring as a vocalist and guitarist with bands in Asia and continental Europe, Al rose to prominence in London in 1931. He continued to appear and record with a number of bands, most notably those of Roy Fox and Lew Stone, but his greatest successes on record came with the studio band of Ray Noble. Their recordings achieved popularity in the USA and, with the assistance of Glenn Miller, Noble established a band in New York in 1934 with Bowlly as principal vocalist. Al returned to live in London in January 1937. He had successful throat surgery in the USA in 1937 but was to have further difficulties with his voice late in his career. Al was the most popular band vocalist in Britain in the 1930s. He remains one of the most highly regarded singers of his era because of the sincerity of his delivery of a lyric.
