Known as Johnny Pearson, John Valmore Pearson (June 18, 1925-March 20, 2011) was a British composer, orchestra leader and pianist. He led the "Top of the Pops" orchestra for 16years, wrote a catalogue of library music and had many of his pieces used as the theme music to television series. Johnny Pearson (1925-2011) was one of Britain's leading popular music and TV arrangers and composers. The composer sadly died in the week I made this video, and I was alerted to his achievements by reading his obituary in the 'Independent' newspaper ( www.independent.co.uk ), and remembered that I had a published piano arrangement of this piece. It appeared in 1969 as a piece of 'library music', but achieved fame in 1971 when it was selected as the theme music for the British TV series Owen MD. The number of orchestral versions still available on CD is a testimony to its enduring popularity.
