Marshall Grant & Luther Perkins: The Tennessee Two Story (Hey Porter) Johnny Cash 2.22 min. | 4.894737 avaliação | 9615 exibições Marshall Grant & Luther Perkins: The Tennessee Two Story The Tennessee Two was the backing band for Johnny Cash The band started in the mid-1950s consisting of Johnny Cash (guitar/lead vocals), Cash's friends Luther Perkins on electric guitar and Marshall Grant on upright bass. Originally called the Tennessee Three, Sam Phillips of Sun Records suggested that the band be called Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two. There was also a third member of the group, Red' Kernodle, who played steel guitar during the first audition. In late 1954, when Cash got an audition with producer Sam Phillips (Memphis, Tennessee), he brought Perkins, Grant and Kernodle along to back him instrumentally. The experience made Kernodle nervous and he ended up leaving before the session was over, with Perkins and Grant providing the instrumentation. Initially, Cash presented himself as a gospel singer, but Phillips turned him down. Phillips asked him to come back with something more commercial. Cash returned with Hey Porter (1955), which immediately caught Phillips' attention. Signed to Sun as Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two, their first chart single, Cry, Cry, Cry, became a moderate country hit. After the singles So Doggone Lonesome and Folsom Prison Blues, the band had their first major country hit with Cash's own I Walk the Line in 1956. They appeared on the Louisiana Hayride in December 1955, becoming regulars, before graduating to the Grand Ole Opry in July 1956. They subsequently achieved major .... + Informações |

Also included are iconic film and images of Johnny around his writing cabin in Tennessee throughout his American Recordings career. Johnny Cash (born JR Cash; February 26, 1932 - September 12, 2003) was a Grammy Award-winning American singer-songwriter and one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Primarily a country music artist, his songs and sound spanned many other genres including rockabilly and rock and roll (especially early in his career), as well as blues, folk and gospel. In 1997, Cash was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease Shy-Drager syndrome. The diagnosis was later altered to autonomic neuropathy associated with diabetes. This illness forced Cash to curtail his touring. He was hospitalized in 1998 with severe pneumonia, which damaged his lungs. The albums American III: Solitary Man (2000) and American IV: The Man Comes Around (2002) contained Cash's response to his illness in the form of songs of a slightly more somber tone than the first two American albums. The video that was released for "Hurt", a song by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, fit Cash's view of his past and feelings of regret. The video for the song, from American IV, is now generally recognized as "his epitaph," and received particular critical and popular acclaim. June Carter Cash died on May 15, 2003, at the age of seventy-one. June had told Cash to keep working, so he continued to record and even performed a couple of surprise shows at the Carter Family Fold outside Bristol, Virginia. (The July 5 .... + Informações |

Johnny Cash - Hey Porter 2.22 min. | 4.9656653 avaliação | 171795 exibições Hey Porter - Johnny Cash Enjoy! Lyrics: Hey, Porter, Hey Porter! Would you tell me the time? How much longer will it be 'Til we cross that Mason Dixon Line? At daylight will you tell that engineer to slow it down; Or better still, just stop the train 'Cause I want to look around. Hey, Porter! Hey Porter! What time did you say? How much longer will it be 'Till I can see the light of day? When we hit Dixie will you tell that engineer to ring his bell; And ask everybody that ain't asleep to stand right up and yell. Hey, Porter! Hey Porter! It's getting light outside. This old train is puffin' smoke and I have to strain my eyes. But ask that engineer if he will blow his whistle please, 'Cause I smell frost on cotton leaves, And I feel that Southern breeze. Hey, Porter! Hey, Porter! Please get my bags for me, I need nobody to tell me now that we're in Tennessee. Go tell that engineer to make that lonesome whistle scream. We're not so far from home so take it easy on the steam. Hey Porter! Hey Porter! Please open up the door. When they stop this train I'm gonna get off first 'Cause I can't wait no more. Tell that engineer I say, "Thanks a lot. I didn't mind the fare. I'm gonna set my feet on Southern soil And breathe that Southern air.". + Informações |

I walk the line - Young Johnny 2.65 min. | 4.963703 avaliação | 3953918 exibições A 23 years old Johnny Cash performing "I walk the Line" live at The Tex Ritter Show. This is the real roots of so many things. I WALK THE LINE. I keep a close watch on this heart of mine I keep my eyes wide open all the time. I keep the ends out for the tie that binds Because you're mine, I walk the line I find it very, very easy to be true I find myself alone when each day is through Yes, I'll admit I'm a fool for you Because you're mine, I walk the line As sure as night is dark and day is light I keep you on my mind both day and night And happiness I've known proves that it's right Because you're mine, I walk the line You've got a way to keep me on your side You give me cause for love that I can't hide For you I know I'd even try to turn the tide Because you're mine, I walk the line. + Informações |
