The albums American III: Solitary Man (2000) and American IV: The Man Comes Around (2002) contained Cash's response to his illness in the form of songs of a slightly more somber tone than the first two American albums. The video that was released for "Hurt", a song by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, fit Cash's view of his past and feelings of regret. The video for the song, from American IV, is now generally recognized as "his epitaph," and received particular critical and popular acclaim. LINK: tinyurl.com Although he shared the same rockabilly roots as Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison went on to pioneer an entirely different brand of country/pop-based rock & roll in the early '60s. What he lacked in charisma and photogenic looks, Orbison made up for in spades with his quavering operatic voice and melodramatic narratives of unrequited love and yearning. In the process, he established rock & roll archetypes of the underdog and the hopelessly romantic loser. These were not only amplified by peers such as Del Shannon and Gene Pitney, but also influenced future generations of roots rockers such as Bruce Springsteen and Chris Isaak, as well as modern country stars the Mavericks. Orbison made his first widely distributed recordings for Sun Records in 1956. Roy was a capable rockabilly singer, and had a small national hit with his first Sun single, "Ooby Dooby." But even then, he was far more comfortable as a ballad singer than as a hepped-up rockabilly jive cat. Other Sun singles met with no success, and by the late '50s he was concentrating primarily on building a career as a songwriter, his biggest early success being "Claudette" (recorded by the Everly Brothers). After a brief, unsuccessful stint with RCA, Orbison finally found his voice with Monument Records .... + Informações |

Cash opened each show, and its regulars included members of his touring troupe, June Carter Cash (his wife) and the Carter Family, The Statler Brothers, Carl Perkins, and The Tennessee Three, with Australian-born musical director-arranger-conductor Bill Walker. The Statler Brothers performed brief comic interludes. It featured many folk-country musicians, such as Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Linda Ronstadt, Kris Kristofferson, Mickey Newbury, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Merle Haggard, James Taylor and Tammy Wynette. It also featured other musicians such as jazz great Louis Armstrong, who died eight months after appearing on the show. The show started with an hour-long tryout offered by ABC as "a summer replacement for their Saturday night variety extravaganza The Hollywood Palace."[1] While Cash had a large degree of freedom, he "had to accept some compromises by hosting showbiz royalty like Bob Hope, George Gobel, Kirk Douglas, Burl Ives, Peggy Lee and Lorne Greene. Greystone Chapel, Johnny Cash at Folsom prison. 2.83 min. | 4.9378533 avaliação | 70461 exibições "Greystone Chapel" is an American country music song written by Glen Sherley in the late 1960s and was included on the 1968 Johnny Cash album At Folsom Prison, released by the Columbia Records label. Glen Sherley was an inmate at Folsom Prison when he wrote the song, which juxtaposed prison life with spiritual freedom that he found in the Greystone Chapel. Sherley was a fan of Cash, whose songs often sympathized with the plight of prisoners. Cash's hit song "Folsom Prison Blues", as well as his occasional clashes with the law, were largely responsible for his popularity with prisoners. Cash heard the song for the first time at the El Rancho Motel in Sacramento on the night before his Folsom Prison performance. Reverend Gresset -- one of Cash's best friends -- asked a favor: "Johnny, I want you to hear a song written by Glen Sherley, an inmate in Folsom, serving five to life for armed robbery. You've been so busy that I haven't had a chance to tell you about it but I thought if you could mention tomorrow that you've heard the tape, it would please that ol' boy who wrote it." The group then listened to the song: "There's a Greystone chapel here at Folsom, A house of worship in this den of sin. You wouldn't think God had a place at Folsom, But he's saved the soul of many lost men." Cash was enthusiastic. He wrote down the words and by the next day his band was prepared to perform the song at Folsom Prison. Cash ended the concert with the song, which drew huge applause. The .... + Informações |

If you look up the song in Wikipedia you'll see that the tune has been known as "Bad Lee Brown","Transfusion Blues", "Late One Night", "East St. Louis Blues", etc. This is our first attempt at recording these songs on video, so when we get a chance to do it again we definitely will.. + Informações |
