Long Black Veil - (Lefty Frizzell cover) by Terry Harrison 3.35 min. | 4.902439 avaliação | 2111 exibições This is my version of Long Black Veil. This song was first recorded by Lefty Frizzell in 1959. It has since been recorded by dozens of singers ranging from Johnny Cash to Bruce Springsteen to Joni Mitchell to Dave Matthews. Originally recorded in Nashville in 1959 by Lefty Frizzell and produced by Don Law, it reached #6 on the US Country chart. The song was written by composer and singer Danny Dill with Marijohn Wilkin in a folk music style in 1959. Wilkin also played piano on the original recording by Frizzell. The writers later stated that they drew on three sources for their inspiration: Red Foley's recording of "God Walks These Hills With Me"; a contemporary newspaper report about the unsolved murder of a priest; and the legend of a mysterious veiled woman who regularly visited Rudolph Valentino's grave. Dill himself called it an "instant folksong". It is definately not a happy song but I have always liked it. I hope some of you enjoy my version.. + Informações |

George Jones - Medley (The Johnny Cash Show) 4.27 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1960 exibições George Glenn Jones was born in Saratoga, in East Texas. As a kid, he sang for tips on the streets of nearby Beaumont. By age 24, he had been married twice, served in the Marines and was a veteran of the Texas honky tonk circuit. On a recording session in 1955 for Starday Records, producer Pappy Dailey suggested he quit singing like his idols, Lefty Frizell, Roy Acuff and Hank Williams, and try singing like George Jones. The result was "Why Baby Why," his first Top Five hit. At Starday, Jones made rockabilly records as Thumper Jones and had his first country #1 at Mercury Records in 1959 with "White Lightning." In 1961 he hit #1 again with "Tender Years" and "She Thinks I Still Care," which held the #1 spot for six weeks and let to Male Vocalist of the Year awards from the Country Music Association in 1962 and again in 1963. Later in the '60s, on the Musicor label, his singles consistently hit the Top 10 and he hit #1 again in 1967 with "Walk Through This World With Me." Jones, the top male singer in country music, married country music's hottest new female artist Tammy Wynette in 1969. He soon joined Wynette's label, Epic, where he enjoyed a successful 20-year association with producer Billy Sherrill. He hit #1 in the '70s with "The Grand Tour" and "The Door," both in 1974. His marriage to Wynette was stormy but in the recording studio they were the perfect duet partners, hitting #1 with "We're Gonna Hold On" in 1974 and, coinciding with their 1976 divorce, "Golden Ring .... + Informações |

Richard Schaller of Rising Waters doing a Lefty Frizzell cover - Long Black Veil.MOV 4.13 min. | 0 avaliação | 20 exibições itunes.apple.com "Long Black Veil" is a 1959 country ballad, written by Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin and originally recorded by Lefty Frizzell. A saga song, "Long Black Veil" is told from the point of view of an executed man falsely accused of murder. He refuses to provide an alibi, since on the night of the murder he was having an affair with his best friend's wife, and would rather die and take their secret to his grave than admit the truth. The chorus describes the woman's mourning visits to his gravesite, wearing a long black veil and enduring a wailing wind.. + Informações |

VARIOUS ARTISTS - A Girl Named Johnny Cash And Other Tribute Songs 1.45 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 2429 exibições VARIOUS ARTISTS A Girl Named Johnny Cash And Other Tribute Songs Country music's greatest artists pay tribute to each other! A must-have for Johnny Cash fans! Includes the cult tribute records by African American country artist Stoney Edwards! Unavailable until now! Plus Merle Haggard, Mac Wiseman, and more! 'Tribute' records are almost forgotten today, but for several decades there were hundreds of tribute records, sung by country stars about other country stars. This 'Tributes' compilation collects eighteen of the best, from Gordon Terry's delightfully wacky tribute to his boss Johnny Cash, The Ballad Of JC, to Charlie Rich's tribute to Jim Reeves, Gentleman Jim. Also included are no less than eight of Stoney Edwards' touching tributes to his heroes, including The Night The Ernest Tubb Show Came To Town, Hag, BobWills, and many others. Superstar Merle Haggard is well represented with Leonard (a biographical song about his friend Leonard Sipes aka 'Tommy Collins') and Goodbye Lefty, an ode to Hag's hero, Lefty Frizzell. All in all, this disc is a fascinating collection of an interesting and forgotten sub-genre of country music.. + Informações |

Classic Tracks: Mama (Lefty Frizzell) 2.72 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 3954 exibições Album: Mom and Dad's Waltz, Harmony HS-11219; Recorded: 1967, Columbia Recording Studios, Nashville; Producer: Don Law & Frank Jones; Session Personnel: Unknown Lefty Frizzell (born 3/31/1928) was a honky-tonk singer, who set the style for generations of vocalists that followed him. Frizzell smoothed out the rough edges of honky-tonk, giving it a contemporary sound. Lefty began singing professionally as a teenager, landing a spot on KELD in El Dorado, Arkansas. He spent his teenage years singing on radio programs, in nightclubs, for dances, and in talent contests. By 1950, he had landed a gig at the Texas club Ace of Clubs. Lefty came to the attention of Jim Beck, the owner of a recording studio, making landmark recordings in Dallas. Beck had many connections within the publishing industry. Jim built all of his equipment from scratch and was leading the way for the recording industry at the time. Impressed with Frizzell's performance, he arranged a demo session for Lefty (4/1950). Frizzell cut several original songs, including, "If You've Got the Money, I've Got the Time," which Beck took to Nashville and tried to pitch the song to Little Jimmy Dickens, but Dickens declined it. Columbia record producer Don Law heard Lefty perform on stage and signed him to a Columbia contract (1950). Lefty's debut single, "If You've Got the Money, I've Got the Time" shot to the top of the chart and Lefty followed-up with "I Love You a Thousand Ways. Frizzell was working with a core group .... + Informações |
