The film, about a "grassroots" political campaign, created unwittingly by a newspaper columnist and pursued by a wealthy businessman, became a box office hit and was nominated for an Academy Award for best original story (for Richard Connell and Robert Presnell Sr.). Though the film is less well known than other Capra classics, it remains highly regarded today. It was ranked #49 in AFI's 100 Years... 100 Cheers. The film is now in the public domain. Infuriated at being told to write one final column after being laid off from her newspaper job, Ann Mitchell (Barbara Stanwyck) prints a letter from a fictional unemployed "John Doe," threatening suicide on Christmas Eve in protest of society's ills. When the note causes a sensation and the paper's competition suspects a fraud and starts to investigate, the newspaper editor rehires Mitchell who comes up with a scheme of hiding the fictional nature of "John Doe" while exploiting the sensation caused by the fake letter to boost the newspaper's sales, for which she demands a bonus equal to 8 months' pay. Na tarde deste último domingo (10) dois vídeos pegaram os fãs de "Mortal Kombat" no mundo todo de surpresa: um jogador brasileiro mostrava trechos do novo game, agendado para sair apenas dia 19 de abril nos EUA e 28 do mesmo mês no Brasil. Nos vídeos, o usuário do Youtube kalebmk09 exibia, por exemplo, golpes do ninja Smoke e Sheeva, a lutadora de quatro braços da mesma raça do monstro Goro, que até então não tinham aparecido em vídeos oficiais de divulgação do game. Em poucas horas, os vídeos apareceram em diversos sites e viraram tema de inúmeros comentários no Twitter, muitos se perguntando como o rapaz, chamado Kaleb Mayara, teria adquirido assim tão antecipadamente um dos jogos mais aguardados de 2011. Não demorou para que até Hector Sanchez, produtor do game, se manifestasse pelo Twitter: "Eu trabalhei muito para ter certeza de que tratamos (o) Brasil com respeito. Eu não posso acreditar que isso aconteceu. Estou decepcionado". Por conta de toda a confusão causada, Kaleb chegou a mudar a descrição de um dos vídeos antes de apagar sua conta no YouTube, explicando como conseguiu o disco: "O jogo não vazou, moro perto da fábrica da Sony no Brasil... peguei uma cópia lá, nada além disso". Provavelmente, Kaleb se refere à Sony DADC, braço da Sony especializado na fabricação e reprodução de CDs e DVDs, que desde abril de 2009 é parceira na produção e distribuição de discos da Warner no Brasil. It was released in 1943 and concentrated on the German bombardment of the United Kingdom in anticipation of Operation Sea Lion, the planned Nazi invasion of Great Britain. The episode has been criticized for an anti-Polish bias. The bias is a result of propaganda justifying the Western Allies' alliance with the Soviets; as Soviets had to be portrayed as the "good guys", the Allies who were unsympathetic towards Soviets, such as the Poles, were misportrayed or simply ignored. Thus in this episode the map of Europe shown, amazingly, shows half of Poland free (to avoid mentioning Soviet annexation of Polish territories following Soviet invasion of Poland), repeats Nazi propaganda false claims about the Polish Airforce being destroyed on the ground (contrasting it with the correct fact that the RAF was not destroyed), and ignores the significant Polish participation in the battle of Britain (support of Polish pilots from No. 303 Polish Fighter Squadron and other units was widely discussed in Britain at the time this propaganda piece was filmed).
