John McDermott (Canadian) - Song for the Mira 3.55 min. | 4.9473686 avaliação | 80155 exibições Your ratings and comments are welcome! This video is from John McDermott's live DVD "A Time to Remember" (2002) where he sings a nice rendition of "Song for the Mira". This folk song is about the Mira River in Nova Scotia Canada, and also mentions the community of Marion Bridge. The song was originally written by a local songwriter named Allister MacGillivray, and has also been recorded by Nova Scotia native Anne Murray. The studio (not live) version of this song is also on the CD (also released in 2002) that has the same title as the DVD. This DVD version omits one chorus and the third and fourth verses of the song: "Out on the Mira on soft summer nights, The bonfires blaze to the children's delights. They dance 'round the flames, singing songs with their friends- I wish I was with them again. And over the ashes the stories are told, Of witches and werewolves and Oak Island gold. The stars on the river, they sparkle and spin- I wish I was with them again." John McDermott~Christmas in the Trenches 6.90 min. | 4.968 avaliação | 50295 exibições I've been listening to John for a while now, first with The Irish Tenors and now during his solo venture. This particular song is one of my favourites. Such a sad and moving song, yet it celebrates a period during the Great War that, to ME was a perfect example of what Christmas should be about! I especially like the strains of 'The Ministrel Boy' at 4.29-4.42. MY tribute to those men (on both side of the wire) who took part in that special and remembered event... The Christmas Truce of 1914. "I never expected to shake hands with Germans between the firing lines on Christmas Day and I don't suppose you thought of us doing so..." Exert from a letter belonging to an unknown British soldier. God bless them.. + Informações |

But it is included on his studio CD titled "Remembrance" (1999), and a slightly different version is on his 2000 re-release of his studio CD titled "Love is a Voyage". A very nice song, performed well, with good stage presence. John McDermott - The Minstrel Boy 3.42 min. | 4.881188 avaliação | 27568 exibições - Image - www.galleryireland.com - Lyrics - The Minstrel Boy to the war is gone In the ranks of death you will find him His father's sword he hath girded on And his wild harp slung behind him "Land of Song!" said the warrior bard "Tho' all the world betrays thee One sword at least thy rights shall guard One faithful harp shall praise thee!" The Minstrel fell! But the foeman's chain Could not bring that proud soul under The harp he lov'd ne'er spoke again For he tore its chords asunder And said "No chains shall sully thee Thou soul of love and brav'ry! Thy songs were made for the pure and free They shall never sound in slavery!" "Land of Song!" said the warrior bard "Tho' all the world betrays thee One sword at least thy rights shall guard One faithful harp shall praise thee!". + Informações |

Video from John McDermott's live DVD "A Time to Remember" (2002). In addition to John's support of veteran's charities, he also promotes young talent. This video features a quick introduction of the Cottars, a step dance routine by Chanda Gibson and Pulse, and a traditional Highland dance demonstration by the Scottish Dance Company of Canada. The closing number is John singing his own unique version of Scotland the Brave while the two dance groups perform an extremely well choreographed routine. "JOHN CHARLES McDERMOTT is a Canadian tenor best known for his rendition of "Danny Boy." John McDermott (Canadian) - Christmas in the Trenches 7.68 min. | 4.970588 avaliação | 27473 exibições Your ratings and comments are welcome! In every war, it is the "grunts" - the boots on the ground, that pay the greatest share of the cost of battle. And it is the soldier who offers up the most fervent and sincere prayers for peace, because they know that the two "givens" of war are #1 - young men die, and #2 - nothing can change number one. This is a video clip from John McDermott's live DVD "A Time to Remember" (2002), in which he sings a splendid rendition of John McCutcheon's song "Christmas in the Trenches" accompanied by some fine young actors on the stage. The song is about a true occurrence during the first Christmas of World War I in 1914. The First World War was perhaps the last "civilized" conflict of the modern era, in that the battles were mostly fought with "conventional" weapons and tactics (save for the use of poison gas), the number of civilian casualties was "relatively" small, and most of the battles were frontal assaults against uniformed opposing forces. At the end of the song, the most poignant lyric points out that "on each end of the rifle, we're the same" - a reference to the shared culture and religious beliefs of the two sides. This performance will bring a tear to the eyes of any veteran or family of a soldier. "JOHN CHARLES McDERMOTT is a Canadian tenor best known for his rendition of "Danny Boy." Born the ninth of twelve children to Irish parents in Glasgow Scotland in 1955, John and his family moved to Canada in 1965. Growing up in a .... + Informações |

Scotland the Brave (John McDermott Version) 2.97 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1046 exibições National Anthem of Scotland with Unofficial Lyrics by John McDermott. Version performed by Robert Wilson with official lyrics by Cliff Hanley: www.youtube.com Lyrics: Let Italy boast of her gay gilded waters, Her vines and her bowers and her soft sunny skies, Her sons drinking love from the eyes of her daughters, Where freedom expires amid softness and sighs. Scotland's blue mountains wild where hoary cliffs are piled, Towering in grandeur are dearer tae me, Land of the misty cloud land of the tempest loud, Land of the brave and proud land of the free. Enthroned on the peak of her own highland mountains, The spirit of Scotia reigns fearless and free, Her green tartan waving o'er blue rock and fountain, And proudly she sings looking over the sea. Here among my mountains wild I have serenely smiled, When armies and empires against me were hurled, Firm as my native rock I have withstood the shock, Of England, of Denmark, of Rome and the world. But see how proudly her war steeds are prancing, Deep groves of steel trodden down in their path, The eyes of my sons like their bright swords are glancing, Triumphantly riding through ruin and death. Bold hearts and nodding plumes wave o'er their bloody tombs, Deepeyed in gore is the green tartan's wave, Shivering are the ranks of steel dire is the horseman's wheel, Victorious in battlefield Scotland the brave. Bold hearts and nodding plumes wave o'er their bloody tombs, Deepeyed in gore is the green tartan's wave, Shivering are the .... + Informações |
