John Frusciante & Josh Klinghoffer - Sphere Album: A Sphere In The Heart Of Silence (2004) A Sphere in the Heart of Silence is the fifth album in a series of six solo efforts that John Frusciante undertook from June 2004 to February 2005, and his eighth overall release. It is an album composed mainly of electronica-based material, and was a joint collaboration between John Frusciante and friend Josh Klinghoffer. Both of them perform vocals; John Frusciante sings lead vocals on "Afterglow", "Walls" and "My Life", and shares vocals with Josh Klinghoffer on "Surrogate People". Josh Klinghoffer performs lead vocals on "Communique", "At Your Enemies" and does the backing vocals for "Walls". It's time to dive and join two long-term friends on their expedition through the depths of electronica. On the effort released under both of their names; John and Josh published some of the non-Ataxia material that was conceived during the performance shows at Los Angeles' Knitting Factory and a couple of other places. The first song, an instrumental titled Sphere had to be shortened by around 2/3, as the original version performed in December 2003 lasted about thirty minutes. The other songs, apart from the last one that somehow doesn't fit into the concept, being an intimate, short ballad, continue the travel through a completely different realm than the one a John listener is used to. 1. John Frusciante - Look On Album: Inside Of Emptiness (2004) Inside of Emptiness is the sixth album by John Frusciante, and the fourth album of a six album series released from June 2004 to February 2005. It features Josh Klinghoffer and Omar Rodríguez-López as guest musicians. Recorded in March and published in October 2004, John's fastest album to date might as well be the first one to think of when someone who hasn't followed his career and who's a fan of Red Hot Chili Peppers asks what to start with. From the distorted hot rocking beats of What I Saw to the melancolic falsetto of Scratches, with the floor vibrating from the screams in 666 and hearts melting at the warmth and openess of I'm Around and cruel reality of Look On, the song which features one of John's best guitar solos ever; Inside Of Emptiness is most likely the album where no skipping will occur, no matter who you are. Lyrically, just like all of John's other albums, it is much more complex. According to the author himself, three songs on the album were written while thinking about British occultist/mystic Aleister Crowley. Some of the music critics are refering to Inside Of Emptiness as something similar to what Shadows Collide With People would sound had it been unpolished and more raw. On the other side, this is obviously album where the electric guitar dominates, unlike on SCWP where each song has an accoustic guitar as the base instrument.
