Written by John Calvi and sung by Meg Christian for the "Meg/Cris At Carnegie Hall" album released in 1983. This song reminds me of the splinters found within the GLBTQI community, as it relates to online forums. Many members live in remote areas and have no "community" other than online forums. I have witnessed the shunning of members for such egregious offenses as calling people by the "wrong' pronoun, having a dissenting opinion that opposes the majority, for harboring innocent ignorance; for simply being a 'newbie' - and other differences that I find people take in stride in "real life" but is not tolerated online. I have wondered often, if any of those expelled members were to witness one of those who led the charge to expunge them being assaulted, would they go to their aid? And conversely, if an expelled member were to find themselves similarly victimized, would any of those righteous members come to their aid? I hope that "real life" confrontations would be dictated by a higher self than the self that sits at a keyboard pontificating about what they would do "hypothetically." Thus, I dedicate this song and mention only a fraction of the faceless names that I've seen who had to walk the plank over a slight. Whether it's a temporary ban or a permanent one, or if it's an individual who walks away because they don't have the heart to withstand a viper pit, I have seen it change people for the worse. Attic Session 4 Joan Of Arc by Leonard Cohen My interpretation of this song is instrumental, as I found the lyrics to be so atmospheric I wanted to write my own piece of music which was inspired by the story that unfolds in each verse. Therefore there are four parts to the instrumental, as there are four verses. After each verse Cohen returns to the same refrain, which he sings a beautiful tune just with 'la's'. After each verse I also return to this melody. I just wanted to capture the story which is so beautifully told, with music. I hope you enjoy.
