The John Barry Memorial Concert took place on 20th June 2011 at The Royal Albert Hall, London. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Nicholas Dodd perform many of John Barry's best known film themes with guest artists Dame Shirley Bassey, David Arnold, Rumer, Derek Watkins, Julian Jackson and Nigel Hitchcock. There are personal tributes to John Barry from his close friends Sir Michael Caine, Don Black, Sir George Martin, David Arnold, Sir Michael Parkinson and Timothy Dalton. Also included are interviews with some of the guest artists. This video is not available in Germany, I regret....Ine "Somewhere in Time" is a 1980 romantic science fiction film directed by Jeannot Szwarc with film stars like Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Reeve plays Richard Collier, a playwright who becomes smitten by a photograph of a young woman at the Grand Hotel. Through self-hypnosis, he travels back in time to the year 1912 to find love with actress Elise McKenna (portrayed by Seymour). But her manager William Fawcett Robinson (portrayed by Plummer) fears that romance will derail her career and resolves to stop him. The film is known for its musical score composed by John Barry. When people speak of John Barry's greatest soundtracks they frequently refer to those written in the 1960's. Across The Sea Of Time proves that thirty years after composing Goldfinger, John Barry could still produce a masterpiece. The film itself was made for IMAX cinemas and is basically an excuse to film all of New York's most famous landmarks in 3D. However, what comes across in the music is John Barry's absolute love of his adopted home town. Barry famously left the production of the Barbra Streisand movie, 'The Prince Of Tides' after being asked to change the music he had written. He re-uses that theme here as 'Flight Over New York'. I have also included the title track from John Barry's 1992 album, 'Moviola' which is another lovely version of this theme. John Barry Prendergast, was an English conductor and composer of film music. He is best known for composing the soundtracks for 12 of the James Bond films between 1962 and 1987. He wrote the scores to the award winning films Midnight Cowboy, Dances with Wolves and Out of Africa, in a career which lasted over 50 years. Born in York, North Riding of Yorkshire, Barry spent his early years working in cinemas, owned by his father. During his National Service in Cyprus, Barry began performing as a musician having learned to play the trumpet. Upon completing his national service, he formed his own band in 1957, The John Barry Seven. He later developed an interest in composing and arranging music making his début for television in 1958. He came to the notice of the makers of the first James Bond film Dr. No who were dissatisfied with a theme for James Bond given to them by Monty Norman. This started a successful association between Barry and the James Bond films which lasted for 25 years. He received awards for his work, including five Academy Awards; two for Born Free, and one each for The Lion in Winter (for which he also won a BAFTA Award), Dances with Wolves and Out of Africa (both of which also won him Grammy Awards). He was later nominated for a Golden Globe for best original score for the 1980 film Somewhere in Time. Barry completed his last film score, Enigma in 2001 and recorded the successful album Eternal Echoes the same year. He then concentrated chiefly on live .... + Informações

Album: Eternal Echoes Year: 2001 _________________ Eternal Echoes is the name of John Barry's final solo album. It was his follow-up recording to The Beyondness of Things, an original solo album of independent material not connected to any film. The composer described the 11 pieces of Eternal Echoes as comprising "an album of sounds, of places and of objects that have always existed and always will exist. They are without beginning or end. They are infinite in our past and future." The album was inspired by the poetry of Barry's friend, John O'Donohue. Initially, the composer conceived the project as a cycle of songs based on O'Donohue's poems. But it ended up being a purely orchestral recording performed by the English Chamber Orchestra. The album also features soloists David White on saxaphone and Tommy Morgan on harmonica. The critical reception was rather modest at the time of the album's release.
