This is John Anderson's version of the country classic "Long Black Veil". It was written in 1959 by Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin and originally recorded by Lefty Frizell. Although this has been covered by a number of artists including the great Johnny Cash, I prefer this version, perhaps because this was the first one I heard. As a bonus the incomparable Merle Haggard makes a "special ghost appearance" (so described on the album jacket) taking over the first chorus in a haunting way that only Merle can do.
