joel daydé joel daydé "i'm very well " album white soul 1972
2.38 min.

Roger Whittaker was born in Nairobi, Kenya in 1936. Whittaker's parents, were originally from Staffordshire, England, where they owned and operated a grocery shop. His father had to move his family to Afrika for health reasons. That Roger Whittaker would eventually become a musician was no surprise, since his grandfather sang in various clubs, and his father played the violin. Roger learned to play the guitar. He went back to Britain in 1959 and released his first professional recording in 1962. In 1969 his own composition "Durham Town (The Leavin')," became Whittaker's first Top 20 hit in Britain. In 1971, Whittaker recorded "The Last Farewell," which would become his biggest hit and a signature song, selling over 11 million copies worldwide. He has developed his own successful career in Germany, singing in their language. Roger Whittaker has also recorded in French and Spanish. For unknown reasons, the original hit recordings of "The Last Farewell" and "Durham Town" are not available on CD anywhere. All current CD releases contain only re-records. He is best known for his baritone singing voice and his trademark is his whistling ability. "Mammy Blue" was composed originaly in french by Hubert Giraud in 1971 and it was an instant hit recorded by several performers in many languages: Nicoletta, Joel Dayde, Pop Tops(Phil Trim), Dalida, Demis Roussos, Nicole Croisille, Ricky Shayne, Ivana Spagna, Johnny Dorelli, José Mercé, James Darren, Vicky Leandros, Stories and Celine .... + Informações

In 1977 Philips released a compilation double LP featuring a selection of Vicky's English language songs, titled "My Beautiful Songs" (Cat. No. Philips 6610 020/9199087/9199088) and printed in W. Germany. The No1 disk includes songs from 1967-1974, while the No2 disk is nothing more than the European pressing of Vicky's 1975 US album "Across the Water". The catalog numbering of this compilation is a total mess. The cover has the number 6610020 but the labels have 9199087 (side 1-2) and 9199088 (side 3-4). To get things worse, disk No2 has two matrix numbers stamped on: the 9199088 and the 6303128, overstamped with "X" ("XXXXXXXX"). The last number is the one of the European Philips pressing of "Across the Water". Indeed very complicated case...It's evident that Philips executives decided to renumber the existing "Across the Water" matrices (as apparently, the US album didn't sell well) and printed new renumbered copies to be packaged in this compilation. This compilation also released in 1978 and 1980 in South Africa under the title "Reflections of..Vicky Leandros" and also in 1977 in Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia). The track we chose to present from this compilation is "Mamy Blue", Vicky's wondeful cover of this huge European pop hit of the early 70s. The original song was written in 1970 by the french composer Hubert Giraud and became a huge international hit of 1971, in English by Los Pop Tops (a Spanish pop/rock group) and Joel Dayde and by Nicoletta with the original .... + Informações
