A funny thing that happened last year (2010) . . . My mom took us all to dinner at Lido's Pizza on Sepulveda and Victory in Van Nuys, CA. I ordered spaghetti with meatballs not knowing they'd only bring me one meatball. My mom laughed and said, "It's like that old song", then she started to sing . . . " One Meatball, One Meatball" over and over throughout the dinner, not exactly remembering where it came from. Getting a big kick out of hearing mom sing and laugh, I had to find out where this song came from. So when we got home, I went to Youtube, entered "One Meatball" and got about 30 different versions. I found out it was written by Josh White in the 40's and was turned into a "Soundie" with vocalist is Patti Clayton. Soundies were an early version of the music video: three-minute musical films, produced in New York, Chicago, and Hollywood between 1940 and 1946, often including short dance sequences. (The completed Soundies were generally released within a few months of their filming; the last group was released in March, 1947.) The films were displayed on the Panoram, a coin-operated film jukebox or machine music, in nightclubs, bars, restaurants, factory lounges, and amusement centers. I used this Soundie version for the bulk of this video. The rest is me just messin' around. This song along with 9 other originals will be released later this year on a new CD.
