Known as the uprising star in the world of classical guitar, Francis Wan encountered the instrument at the age of thirteen. In just over a year, Francis started to show great promises in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, most impressively having won five first prize titles in various classes of guitar performance for three consecutive years, and immediately started his performing career. After graduating from high school, with enthusiasm for music, Francis traveled to Europe to study with several world-renowned guitar virtuosi, including John Williams, Pepe Romero, Alvaro Pierri and the Hubert Kappel and so forth. Upon returning to Hong Kong, Francis was accepted by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts immediately as a Diploma student in the School of Music, majoring in guitar performance under the tutelage of Tina K. Lo. He was then awarded a full scholarship, due to his outstanding performance, to finish his studies in the honorary program of Bachelor of Music. Francis also holds a number of music performance qualifications, including the Licentiate of Royal Schools of Music (LRSM). Francis Wan has been an active performer ever since he played as one of the first guitarists in the Hong Kong Guitar Orchestra. Other than regularly being invited to perform as soloist, Francis also often partner with other local musicians in performances that are mostly sponsored by charities. Joaquin Turina (1882-1949) wrote several sets of pieces that evoke his own childhood, and that of his children. This set, published in 1931, is dedicated to his daughter, Conchita, who features in several of the pieces. Joaquín Turina Pérez (1882-1949) studied piano with Moritz Moszkowski and composition with Vincent d´Indy just to yield into the impressionistic charm of Claude Debussy. His friends de Falla and Albéniz encouraged him to keep an open ear to the spanish tradition something he easily did since he loved his native Sevilla. There is subtlety, elegance and humour in Turina´s music. He often responded in music to literary or visual ideas. His ´poem in form of songs`, op.19, was composed in 1923. It consists on an introduction, Dedicatória (piano solo), and four songs for female voice. It sets in music poems by Ramón de Campoamor. The poems deal with the ´´capriccios`` of love. ´Los dos miedos` talks about dependency, contradiction, fear of letting ourselves go in love. Pianist Juan Antonio Alvarez-Parejo masterly interprets Dedicatória (0:00 up to 3:08 min), 1986. Maria Bayo sings ´los dos miedos` with her familiar warm and poetic manner (3:09 up to 5:50min), 1992, Alvarez-Parejo accompanies. The photos were taken in the Aegean sea and Syros.
