1940's Hollywood Pop - Jimmy Wakely 2.42 min. | 4.828125 avaliação | 43664 exibições In this clip, fictitious, watered-down pseudo-western-swing act Jimmy Wakely & the Sunshine Girls perform "You Are My Sunshine." Jimmy Wakely was a Hollywood B-Western personality. With his career zenith during the studio system, Wakely would star in cowboy matinees and be featured in a comic book series. "You are my Sunshine," one of the most covered songs of it's day, is arranged here with an early manufactured pop sensibility. Including a Western swing rhythm section, Andrews Sisters' styled harmonies, and a crooner leading a very stiff Hollywood studio orchestra, the arranger has achieved a quintessential triumph in banality. Jimmy Wakely, Singing in the Saddle: Saturday's Heroes 5.02 min. | 4.8 avaliação | 3432 exibições Singing in the Saddle: Saturday's Heroes The songs of Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Sons of the Pioneers and Tex Ritter put the "Western" in Country and Western Music. Much of this music was written for and presented to the American public through the widely popular cowboy films of the 30's and 40's. Roy Rogers (Leonard Slye, b. 11/5/1911): Roy was a western movie star from 1938 to 1953. He began playing at local functions during the 1920s. After stints with such groups as the Rocky Mountaineers and the Hollywood Hillbillies, he formed his own band, the International Cowboys. Roy began playing bit parts in films, first under the name of Dick Weston, and then assuming his guise as Roy Rogers. He eventually won a starring role in "Under Western Skies" (1938). With his horse Trigger and frequent female partner, Dale Evans (whom he married in 1947) and occasional help from such people as the Sons of the Pioneers and Spade Cooley, Roy became Gene Autry's only real rival. Roy appeared in over 100 movies and had his own TV show in the mid-1950s. Rogers, who recorded for RCA-Victor for many years, wasinducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988. Gene Autry: Gene, the most successful of all singing cowboys was born in Tioga, Texas (9/29/1907~10/2/1998). Fresh out of high school, he became a railroad telegrapher with the Frisco Railway in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Autry then took a radio job on KVOO, Tulsa (1930), billing himself as "Oklahoma's Singing Cowboy" and adapting the singing .... + Informações |

Arthur Smith, Jimmy Wakely - Yodeling Ranger (1948) 2.58 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 17962 exibições This clip is from the 1948 Jimmy Wakely western The Rangers Ride. Arthur is playing in the band but unfortunately the soundtrack is not Artur's fiddling. It is most likely the brilliant lefty swing fiddler Tex Achison who played the fiddle both in Wakely westerns and others of the era. This is a shame for it would have been wonderful to hear Arthur's notes as he clearly is got something going on his box.. + Informações |

When It's Nighttime In Nevada - Jimmy Wakely - 1948 1.77 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1085 exibições James Clarence "Jimmy" Wakeley was born in Mineola (Howard County) Arkansas on February 16, 1914 but was raised in Oklahoma during the Depression and Dust Bowl era. Jimmy Wakely was among the last of Hollywood's singing cowboys, and he galloped across the dusty back lot trails during the twilight of the B-western movie. By the late 1940s, these one-hour cowboy adventures were fading away as post World War II film production costs had soared, the taste of the theater audience was changing, and television was arriving on the scene. In his later years, Wakely suffered from a variety of medical issues including heart problems, emphysema and asthma, and he passed away on September 23, 1982. His wife Inez passed in 1997. They are interred next to each other in the Court of Remembrance at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, California.. + Informações |

Jimmy Wakely & Eileen Barton - Twilight Time in Tennessee (cowboy & cowgirl vocal duet) 2.68 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 255 exibições Jimmy Wakely & Eileen Barton (vocal duet) Cowboy Band Music Twilight Time in Tennessee written by Jay Milton and Ricky Edwards Recorded from an old 78 rpm record. Orange Coral record label # 61175Years before I started working at the (now defunct) book & record store, I used to visit there as often as I could. On one occasion I met the man who was running the bookstore at that time. During our conversation I had asked about 78 rpm records, he said that he had many upstairs but no one goes up there without his consent. That seemed to be that....until one day he approaches with a proposition, I go through his mess of 78's, straighten it up so that he could present his collection to buyers and I get a deal on any 78's that I might want...except I was to give him all of the SUN label records. I accepted with the understanding that if he was selling any of his SUN records that I would have a chance at them once he had them appraised. Well, I found several and he never offered one back....he just sold them off. I used to spend hours in a dusty/musty dark room (upstairs of the record store, before & during the time i worked there) going through thousands trying to guess which one is worth the effort... you have to, there was literally thousands waiting to be discarded. I just can't process the thought of what didn't get saved! Picture is from a long playing 33Lp album cover.. + Informações |

Jimmy Wakely, Fiddlin' Arthur Smith - Its A Beautiful Day (1948) 2.38 min. | 4.5 avaliação | 4139 exibições This clip is from another Jimmy Wakely western in 1948 where Arthur has a great scene where he is to take a fiddle break.
