James Frederick "Jimmie" Rodgers (born September 18, 1933 in Camas, Washington, United States) is an American singer. He is not related to the country singer of the same name. Rodgers was taught music by his mother, learned to play the piano and guitar, and formed a band while he served in the United States Air Force. Like a number of other entertainers of the era, he was one of the contestants on Arthur Godfrey's talent show on the radio. When Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore left RCA Records to found a new record company, Roulette Records, they became aware of Rodgers' talent and signed him up. In the summer of 1957, he recorded a song called "Honeycomb", which had been recorded by Bob Merrill and Georgie Shaw three years earlier. It was Rodgers' first big hit, staying on the top of the charts for four weeks. The following year, he had a number of other hits that reached the Top 10 on the charts: "Kisses Sweeter than Wine", "Oh-Oh, I'm Falling in Love Again", "Secretly", and "Are You Really Mine". "Honeycomb" reached Number 30 in the UK Singles Chart in November 1957, but "Kisses Sweeter than Wine" climbed to Number 7 the following month. His biggest hit in the UK was "English Country Garden", which reached Number 5 in the chart in June 1962. Oddly enough, the song was never released as a single in the United States. In 1962, he moved to the Dot label, and four years later to A&M Records. He also appeared in some movies, including The Little Shepard of Kingdom Come .... + Informações

The 1958 hit from the great Jimmie Rodgers. James Frederick "Jimmie" Rodgers (born September 18, 1933 in Camas, Washington, United States) is an American singer. He is not related to the country singer of the same name, who coincidentally died in the same year that the subject of this article was born. His name is often incorrectly spelled Jimmy or Rogers. Rodgers was taught music by his mother, learned to play the piano and guitar, and joined a band called "The Melodies" started by violinist Phil Clark, while he served in the United States Air Force in Korea. The tune was Rodgers' biggest hit, staying on the top of the charts for four weeks. The following year, he had a number of other hits that reached the Top 10 on the charts: "Kisses Sweeter than Wine", "Oh-Oh, I'm Falling in Love Again", "Secretly", and "Are You Really Mine". Other hits include "Bo Diddley", "Bimbombey", "Ring-a-ling-a-lario", "Tucumcari," "Tender Love and Care (TLC)", and a version of Waltzing Matilda as a film tie-in with On the Beach. In 1966 The Beach Boys peaked at #3 on the .... + Informações

May 1933, Rodgers, suffering from Tuberculosis, traveled to New York City for a group of sessions beginning May 17, 1933. He started these sessions recording alone and completed four songs on the first day. When he returned to the studio after a day's rest, he had to record sitting down and soon retreated to his hotel in hopes of regaining enough energy to finish the songs he had been rehearsing. The recording engineer hired two session musicians to help Rodgers when he came back to the studio a few days later. Together they recorded a few songs, including "Mississippi Delta Blues". For his last song of the session, however, Jimmie chose to perform alone, and as a matching bookend to his career, recorded "Years Ago" by himself. Jimmie Rodgers died two days later on May 26, 1933 from a lung hemorrhage. He was 35 years old.. + Informações

I decided to make this video a little more personal since I was born in the same town Jimmie Rodgers was born in and grew up and raised in and around the town! My wife and I have moved to another state for college but I do try to visit family as much as possible!! "His is the music of America. He sang the songs of the people he loved, of a young nation growing strong. His was an America of glistening rails, thundering boxcars, and rain-swept night, of lonesome prairies, great mountains and a high blue sky. He sang of the bayous and the cornfields, the wheated plains, of the little towns, the cities, and of the winding rivers of America." -- inscribed on the Jimmie Rodgers statue in Meridian, Mississippi. + Informações

This is "The Soldier's Sweetheart", the very first song Jimmie Rodgers recorded. This was done by Ralph Peer on 4th of August 1927 in Bristol, Tennessee. This first record of Jimmie's sold well, but was not a hit. But, considering the fact that he was a totally unknown artist, the result was good. It was on the next recording session with Peer, in Camden, New Jersey, on the 30th of November, that Jimmie Rodgers sung his song "Blue Yodel", which became a total success and his break through as an artist. It started "T for Texas, T for Tennessee", as you know, and his yodelin' on this one gave him the name "America's Blue Yodeler". The flip side contained "Away out on the Mountain", also a success song. The rest is history. On this video, the 78 rpm RCA Victor record from 1927 is played on a 1930's crank operated and spring driven His Masters Voice portable gramophone. I hope you enjoy this little, but crucial piece of Country Music History. Michael PS: I am the singer and composer of The Long gone Smiles Band of Stockholm in Sweden - Swedish champions in pure country music 2007. We love Jimmie Rodgers' music and try to pay tribute to him and to keep making his wonderful music known. We have made a tribute song for Jimmie - The Brakemen on the Memphis Train. Velcome to listen to that song and our videos on YouTube. Thanks! www.youtube.com/mickeyodel www.myspace.com/longgonesmilesband. + Informações

"Honeycomb" is not a song one would ordinarily connect with songwriter Bob Merrill, he of "People" and "Don't Rain On My Parade" fame, but write it he did in 1954. A few years later songster Jimmie Rodgers made it his first and only #1 hit in August of '57. Jimmie would then reel off three Top 10 hits right after it starting with "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine" followed by "Oh-Oh, I'm Falling In Love Again", and "Secretly".. + Informações
