Jimmie Rodgers - English Country Garden 3.07 min. | 4.9288135 avaliação | 109647 exibições James Frederick "Jimmie" Rodgers (born September 18, 1933 in Camas, Washington, United States) is an American singer. He is not related to the country singer of the same name. Rodgers was taught music by his mother, learned to play the piano and guitar, and formed a band while he served in the United States Air Force. Like a number of other entertainers of the era, he was one of the contestants on Arthur Godfrey's talent show on the radio. When Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore left RCA Records to found a new record company, Roulette Records, they became aware of Rodgers' talent and signed him up. In the summer of 1957, he recorded a song called "Honeycomb", which had been recorded by Bob Merrill and Georgie Shaw three years earlier. It was Rodgers' first big hit, staying on the top of the charts for four weeks. The following year, he had a number of other hits that reached the Top 10 on the charts: "Kisses Sweeter than Wine", "Oh-Oh, I'm Falling in Love Again", "Secretly", and "Are You Really Mine". "Honeycomb" reached Number 30 in the UK Singles Chart in November 1957, but "Kisses Sweeter than Wine" climbed to Number 7 the following month. His biggest hit in the UK was "English Country Garden", which reached Number 5 in the chart in June 1962. Oddly enough, the song was never released as a single in the United States. In 1962, he moved to the Dot label, and four years later to A&M Records. He also appeared in some movies, including The Little Shepard of Kingdom Come .... + Informações |

Jimmie Rodgers first recording - The Soldier's Sweetheart - August 4th 1927 4.00 min. | 4.9452057 avaliação | 17050 exibições This is "The Soldier's Sweetheart", the very first song Jimmie Rodgers recorded. This was done by Ralph Peer on 4th of August 1927 in Bristol, Tennessee. This first record of Jimmie's sold well, but was not a hit. But, considering the fact that he was a totally unknown artist, the result was good. It was on the next recording session with Peer, in Camden, New Jersey, on the 30th of November, that Jimmie Rodgers sung his song "Blue Yodel", which became a total success and his break through as an artist. It started "T for Texas, T for Tennessee", as you know, and his yodelin' on this one gave him the name "America's Blue Yodeler". The flip side contained "Away out on the Mountain", also a success song. The rest is history. On this video, the 78 rpm RCA Victor record from 1927 is played on a 1930's crank operated and spring driven His Masters Voice portable gramophone. I hope you enjoy this little, but crucial piece of Country Music History. Michael PS: I am the singer and composer of The Long gone Smiles Band of Stockholm in Sweden - Swedish champions in pure country music 2007. We love Jimmie Rodgers' music and try to pay tribute to him and to keep making his wonderful music known. We have made a tribute song for Jimmie - The Brakemen on the Memphis Train. Velcome to listen to that song and our videos on YouTube. Thanks! www.youtube.com/mickeyodel www.myspace.com/longgonesmilesband. + Informações |

Jimmy Reed - Baby, What You Want Me To Do.wmv 2.42 min. | 4.974026 avaliação | 33198 exibições www.youtube.com Reed was born in Dunleith, Mississippi in 1925, learning the harmonica and guitar from Eddie Taylor, a close friend. After spending several years busking and performing in the area, Reed moved to Chicago, Illinois, in 1943 before being drafted into the US Navy during World War II. In 1945, Reed was discharged and moved back to Mississippi for a brief period, marrying his girlfriend, Mary "Mama" Reed, before moving to Gary, Indiana to work at an Armour & Co. meat packing plant. Mama Reed appears as an uncredited background singer on many of his songs, notably the major hits "Baby What You Want Me to Do", "Big Boss Man" and "Bright Lights, Big City". By the 1950s, Reed had established himself as a popular musician and joined the "Gary Kings" with John Brim, as well as playing on the street with Willie Joe Duncan. Reed failed to gain a recording contract with Chess Records, but signed with Vee-Jay Records through Brim's drummer, Albert King. At Vee-Jay, Reed began playing again with Eddie Taylor and soon released "You Don't Have to Go", his first hit record. This was followed by a long string of hits. Reed maintained his reputation despite his rampant alcoholism; sometimes his wife had to help him remember the lyrics to his songs while recording. In 1957, Reed developed epilepsy, though the condition was not correctly diagnosed for a long time, as Reed and doctors assumed it was delirium tremens.[3] In spite of his numerous hits, Reed's personal problems .... + Informações |
