Graspop Metal Meeting 2012 present: PENNYWISE Not only do the guys from Pennywise live and breathe punk; they are punk. Formed in 1988, the Californian band has had to navigate rough waters but they never compromised. For example, when punk became fashionable again in the mid-90s they refused to sign with a major label. Bassist Thirsk's untimely death in 1996 briefly put the band's future in doubt but throwing in the towel wasn't an option. The band's attitude and success has inspired punk bands worldwide but despite career album sales in excess of 3 million, the guys have not forgotten their humble beginnings. Long-time singer and founding member Jim Lindberg left the band in the summer of 2009 but even this didn't stop the band's momentum.
