The Turnarounds didn't care for it, but Jewel did so he recorded it solo, and it became the #3 song in the nation during February of 1965. He toured with The Monkees and continued to record until the mid 1970s in a variety of styles. In 1973 he co-produced the critically acclaimed Super Taylors, a duet album of Southern soul by Ted Taylor and Little Johnny Taylor. In 1989-91 Akens recorded three singles with a group called The Feathers.
