Jet Harris & The Drifters - Driftin' (The Shadows) Terence 'Jet' Harris was born in Kingsbury, North London, on 6th July 1939, the only son of Bill and Winifred Harris. The young Terence Harris was nicknamed 'Jet' by his school friends because of his abilities of being one of the fastest runners in the school. Jet left school at the age of fifteen and started work with his dad as an apprentice welder, making milk churns. The very first record that he took notice of was Winifred Atwell's 'Left Hand Boogie' in 1952. He was facinated by the 'bass' sound on winifred's left hand. Jet Harris & Tony Meehan classic Diamonds a number one for 6 weeks in 1962 for the duo that were both in The Shadows along side Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch. Jet was awarded the MBE from the Queen in 2009. He got to play with The Shadows again for one time only at Marty Wilde's 50th Anniversary concert and appeared along side Hank and Bruce for Marty's finale at the end of the concert together with all the stars that was on at that concert. Jet Harris a great man both very talented and funny with a great sence of humour and shall always be remembered for his importance being the first man in Britain to play the Electric Bass. Jet Harris MBE re-recorded 'Gonzales' for his excellent 'Diamonds are Trumps' album featuring Bobby Graham. The Shadows recorded this in '61 was another big hit stomping number. I think it would have been great if Jet has been able to re-recorded with Hank Marvin again and made some duets like Pipeline that Hank made with Duane Eddy - Which whenever i listen to this recording i always think of Jet Harris. Gonzales a great track and one i feel that suits Jet's guitar really well. With great pics for you to enjoy also. I was privleged to meet Jet three times and he was such a lovely man both very talented and funny too! Enjoy!. + Informações

Jet Harris MBE and Apache. It is nice to hear Apache played by Jet. Following on from The Shadows, Jet has included played Shadows numbers in his tours. Apache was recorded by Jet for a special cassette only in 1996 called A Fistful Of Strings ll, making this the only studio recording for Jet on lead guitar. His live version has appeared on his inside album - A concert from the late 70s that was released a few years ago. Also Jet recorded a version of Apache on six string bass, (that can be found in my channel on Youtube) with Tangent for an album in 1994. A great recording of 'Ghost Riders In The Sky' that i have remastered sound by Jet Harris MBE & The Diamonds. It was said that in the late 70's Jet wanted The Shadows to produce him for Riders In The Sky. The next we herd was that The shadows recorded their own and it got to no 12 in the uk charts! Jet continued and played this at his live shows and tours and eventually recorded Ghost Riders for a special cassette in '1996 titled Fistful Of Strings ll.
