"At age 7 or 8 he developed into a great skater. His jumps got higher and tricks got better. He loved it and he would make movies about it with his friends.He could really skate and he had no fear. He was just a beautiful kid. His smile was so infectious" remembers Jeffrey Steele. For five years now, singer songwriter Jeffrey Steele and his family have struggled to heal their broken hearts. "It never gets easier, you just live with it and it hurts all the time, but you have to make it good or you are gonna die suffering of it" says Steele. Their son Alex died on January 28th, 2007 after an ATV accident and every day since their loss has given them a new direction, helping kids that love life as much as Alex did. "We are here to honor his memory and through his name raise money for The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, to not only raise money for other charities but for our charity, which raises money for scholarships for kids that maybe are a little off track" says Steele. They created a fund in Alex's name and to date have raised more than 150-thousand dollars to aide and impact youth. They even re-built the flooded Brentwood Skatepark where Alex first learned to Skate. It's money made possible thanks in part to events like the one on Tuesday night at Franklin Theater, where guests bid on auction items and watched Steele perform along stars like Martina McBride and John Rich, for nothing more than keeping Alex's memory alive.
