JB Cramer: Selection from 84 'Studio per il pianoforte' (nos 5, 2, 3, 9, 8 from Bülow edition of 60) 5.88 min. | 4.5 avaliação | 5527 exibições The German-born Johann Baptist Cramer (1771-1858), a star pupil of Clementi, lived and worked mainly in England from 1800, and became active as a music publisher as well as pianist and composer. His set of 84 piano studies were published in two sets of 42, in 1804 and 1810. They were popularised for many years through the heavily annotated edition by Hans von Bülow (1830-94) - Liszt's one-time son-in-law, which gives a fascinating glimpse of 19th c attitudes to late classical music and contemporary piano teaching methodology. This selection of five studies gives some idea of the compositional style, and will hopefully encourage others to play these pieces for their musical worth rather than for purely technical purposes. --------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear (Sussex, UK) www.psear.co.uk. + Informações |

JB Cramer - Etudes 2, 5, 21, 24 (23, 25, 24, 18) in the tempo of the metronome 11.08 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1154 exibições Johann Baptist Cramer (1771-1858) composed a lot of piano studies. The collection of 84 studies is well-known by every piano student. Hans von Bulow took a selection of 60 studies out of it. Children and young budding pianists, but also advanced amateurs play these studies willingly because of their musical value. But there is one big problem: the metronome marks. These marks are very fast, too fast for children, youngsters and amateurs. It is possible that we read the metronome marks in a wrong way. There exist a theory that we have to halve the metronome marks. The metronome says tick-tack and one tick-tack is one count. That seems logic. I play these studies on my nice forte-piano twice: the first time in half of the tempo and the second time in the pace as indicated by the metronome mark. It is up to you which tempo is most adequate. The tempi are: Study 2 : dotted 1/2note= 50 dotted 1/2note= 100 (presto) Study 5 : 1/4note=66 1/4note=132 (allegro moderato) Study 21: dotted 1/4note=42 dottet 1/4note=84 (moderato) Study 24: 1/4note=46 1/4note=92 (con moto) Info: www.gerardvanreenen.nl. + Informações |

JB Cramer Nr 38.mp4 2.00 min. | 4.5 avaliação | 727 exibições Martin Dalheimer plays on his broadwood 1830 Johann Baptist Cramer: Nr. 38 e-moll moderato In 1829 Cramer officially retired from public performances and gave a farewell concert in 1835. At the Great Exhibition of 1851 Johann Baptist Cramer noticed the Transposing Piano by Erard, he was impressed with this idea especially from a sheet music publishers point of view as most musicians complained bitterly of publishers changing the key to an easier key thus changing the sound of the original piece. The transposing piano allows the easy key to be retained and yet the power is possessed to make the song sound in the author's original scale. Johann Baptist Cramer considered this a useful tool. In 1865 Henry Hicks wile strolling down Mooregate he seen a notice in the shop window "Porter Required " he started to work for Cramers and soon became there best sales man, Hicks learnt to tune and stayed loyal to Cramer. Hicks had a son who served his apprenticeship at Cramers but he refused to stay with Cramers and set up his own workshop. The company was taken over by the Kemble piano group in 1964, who, for a limited period used the `Cramer' name. Today Cramer pianos are mades for the FarEast where the Cramer name is requested they are still made to Traditional British Piano Design at Kembles.. + Informações |

JB Cramer Nr. 2.mp4 ???????????2? 1.10 min. | 4.710145 avaliação | 1910 exibições Martin Dalheimer plays on his broadwood 1830 Johann Baptist Cramer: Nr. 2 e-moll, presto Between 1810 - 1830 Johann Baptist Cramer devoted a lot of his time to teaching especially young ladies he acquired the name of "Glorious John" Dr Cox writes. "I was not prepared for such effects as he produced the charm of which was not such much derived from his brilliant manipulation as from the feeling his exquisitely pure cantabile produced. In point of taste, expression and sensibility, I believe John Baptist Cramer to have been unrivalled: for he possessed the power of making the piano forte sing as if it were a human voice preferably under control." In 1824 Johann Baptist Cramer set up the his own Music Publishing Company, at 139 New Bond Street, called "JB Cramer & Company" is partners where Robert Addison and Thomas Frederick Beale The company did more in publishing at first. The production of pianos started later around 1880. The first Cramer pianos are believed to be copies of Clementi's piano. + Informações |

JB Cramer - Etudes 16, 29, 41 (8, 26, 56) - in the tempo of the metronome 12.42 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 559 exibições The studies of Johann Baptist Cramer (1771-1858) are of a moderate difficulty. Children and young piano students can practice this studies before the "Gradus ad Parnassum" of Clementi. Yet, if one plays them in the tempo as indicated by the metronome marks, they are very difficult, too difficult for children and youngsters who have not yet the same technique as the virtuosi. I doubt if we read the metronome marks not in the wrong way. When one halve the markings it sounds quite naturally and it is well playable for children and rather advanced students. Halving the metronome marks is not as absurd as it seems to be. The metronome says "tick-tack", and we can one "tick-tack" give one count. It's like the pendulum of a clock: one "to and fro" of the pendulum is also one count. The tempos are: Study 16: 1/4note=58 1/4note=116 (moderato con espressione!). In the Peters Edition the tempo indication is 1/4note=132, that is even faster as I do. Is this study, played in this fast tempo still "moderato con espressione"? Study 29: 1/4note=66 1/4note=132 (presto). In this fast tempo unplayable for children and piano students! Study 41: 1/4note=58 1/4note=116 (Aria moderato). Is this piece in the tempo of 116 still an Aria Moderato??? No it is a Presto e Agitato! Listen to this interpretations. It's up to you to decide what is the best and most appropriate tempo. I play this studies on my nice forte-piano, built after Dulcken of Munich. Info: www.gerardvanreenen.nl. + Informações |

JB Cramer - Etudes 6, 12, 13 (5, 3, 4) in the tempo of the metronome 6.77 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 538 exibições Johann Baptist Cramer (1771-1858) composed a lot of piano studies. The collection of 84 studies is well-known by every piano student. Hans von Bulow (1830-1894) made a selection of 60 studies of it. The tempi are notated by metronome markings. These markings are very high; too high for most students who are not yet accomplished. The virtuosi can possibly play these studies in the tempo of the metronome, but Cramer did not write it for them. Therefore, I think that we have to halve the metronome markings. That was possibly a habit in the 19th century. I play every study twice; the first time in half the tempo and the second time in the tempo as indicated by the metronome number. These tempos are: Study 6 : 1/8note=69 1/8note=138 Study 12: 1/4note=66 1/4note=132 Study 13: 1/4note=54 1/4note=108 Cramer has for sure played the harpsichord as a child, and long after that. He lived in England. In that country a lot of music lovers played untill the beginning of the 19th century on harpsichord (and of course on forte-piano as well). In the first decade of the 19th century harpsichords were still built in England. The last harpsichord has been built there in 1809 by Kirkman, so customers and players existed still at that time.
