This Music CD, pays tribute to the classic 1960's TV series icon, "Mister ED," and features new recordings of the theme song, along with songs from the episodes, "Ed the Songwriter," and "Mister Ed's Blues," respectively. In light of the discovery of the sheet music for "The Pretty Little Filly," and "Empty Feedbag Blues," these songs have been recorded, as written, by the late songwriter, Sheldon Allman, who was the original singing voice for Mister Ed. "MISTER ED UNPLUGGED," faithfully captures the charm of the shorter versions, of these songs, sung by Mr. Allman. The original concept title for Silver Bells was TINKLE BELLS until songwriter Jay Livingston told his wife and she said "Are you out of your mind? Do you know what the word tinkle is?'" They were unaware of the alternate meaning for Tinkle... hence the switch to Silver Bells. First performed by Bob Hope and Marilyn Maxwell in "The Lemon Drop Kid", it was also recorded by Bing Crosby and Carol Richards in 1950. Jay Livingston and Ray Evans were exceptional partners who met in a college band. Their numerous accomplishments include the theme music for the iconic TV shows Mr. Ed and Bonanza (All together now - "A Horse is a Horse Of Course Of Course!)..... Livingston and Evans won the Oscar for Best Song three times (Buttons and Bows, Mona Lisa and Que Sera Sera and nominee song Tammy). Silver Bells is new to our repertoire this year because I have spent years searching for the perfect arrangement. It is the number one requested song by audiences from our outdoor plaza concerts. My quartet "tested" this version last year in our plaza concerts. We always see such pleasure on peoples faces as we sing this sweet song about Christmas in the city. It's gorgeous with the full choir.... and gorgeous with a quartet. Performed by the Grotto Carolers at the Opening Night Concert at the Grotto's Festival of Lights, Nov 27th, 2009 under the direction of Julie Stewart in Portland, OR.
