Posting the recordings of the great Randy Edelman, prompted me to unearth a track by Jane Olivor (who recorded a version of his beautiful "You" which was the subject of my tribute to Meryl Streep). Jane has a most exquisite voice - compared to Piaf and Streisand - she began her recording career in 1976, and released 4 studio albums, a live album and a best of, all in a 6 year period, before retreating from the industry, for nearly 2 decades, before returning to the studio to release a festive holiday album, and another pop recording in the early 00's. "First Night" was a critical success, but failed to make much of a dent sales wise or with any Top 40 achievements. By her third album "Stay the night", Jane was beginning to slowly make inroads into the Billboard charts, but by the early 80's and even with a performance on the oscar telecast of the nominated duet with Johnny Mathis "The Last time i felt like this", she had become phobic about performing, and with personal loss and tragedy, she faded from view. Her magical and warm tones are quite a treat, and her catalogue of recordings includes sublime interpretations of standards such as "Some enchanted evening", "Vincent", "The Greatest Love of all", and "Solitaire" among others. I have chosen "Better Days" as the track from her debut, to represent her, as it is an uplifting and hope-filled song, written by one of my all time favourite singers Melissa Manchester and her frequent collaborator Carole Bayer Sager, and .... + Informações
