825. Too-Ra-Loo-Ra-Loo-Ral - That's An Irish Lullaby (JR Shannon) 2.98 min. | 4.9344263 avaliação | 12489 exibições This is another one of those Irish songs that are not really Irish - like Molly Malone. James Royce (1881 - 1946) was a prominent actor and composer of the Tin Pan Alley era. Born in Michigan, he added the "Shannon" to his name to make it sound Irish, as "Irish" music was popular at the time. This is his best-known song, written in 1913 for the musical production by Chauncey Olcott, "Shameen Dhu (Black-Haired Jimmy)", which was staged in New York in 1914. The song had a new lease of life when it was sung by Bing Crosby in the movie "Going My Way" (1944). It has since been sung by many artists, including Dean Martin, Bob McGrath and Van Morrison. This song was requested by NotTooObvious. Anthem of Missouri USA 2.92 min. | 4.6363635 avaliação | 16548 exibições Missouri Waltz Written by James Royce Shannon Music by John Valentine Eppel as arranged by Frederick Knight Logan Hush-a-bye, ma baby, slumber time is comin' soon; Rest yo' head upon my breast, while mommy hums a tune; The sandman is callin', where shadows are fallin', While the soft breezes sigh as in days long gone by. Way down in Missouri where I heard this melody, When I was a little child on my mommy's knee; The old folks were hummin', their banjos were strummin' So sweet and low. Strum, strum, strum, strum, strum, Seems I hear those banjos playin' once again, Hum, hum, hum, hum, hum, That same old plaintive strain. Hum, hum, hum, hum, hum, That same old plaintive strain. Hear that mournful melody, It just haunts you the whole day long, And you wander in dreams, back to Dixie, it seems, When you hear that old song. Hush a-bye, my baby, go to sleep on Mommy's knee, Journey back to Dixieland in dreams again with me; It seems like your Mommy is there again, And the old folks were strummin' that old refrain. Way down in Missouri where I learned this lullaby, When the stars were blinkin' and the moon was climbin' high, Seems I hear voices low, as in days long ago Singin' hush a-bye.. + Informações |

St. Patricks Day Dr. Dugdale @ 2me Tura-Lura-Lural 5.18 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 5940 exibições The music and lyrics to the song "Too Ra Loo Ra Loo Ral" were written in 1913 by James Royce Shannon (1881-1946). It premiered in Chauncey Olcott's production of "Shameen Dhu" ("Black-haired Jimmy"). The song later became a hit for Bing Crosby who sang it in "Going My Way" (1944). The live version with The Band and Van Morrison omits the first verse of the song and changes the lyrics a little. The original song goes like this: Over in Killarney, Many years ago, Me mither sang a song to me In tones so sweet and low. Just a simple little ditty, In her good ould Irish way, And I'd give the world if she could sing That song to me this day. Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li, Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Hush, now don't you cry! Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li, Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, That's an Irish lullaby. Oft, in dreams I wander To that cot again, I feel her arms a huggin' me As when she held me then. And I hear her voice a humin' To me as in days or yore, When she used to rock me fast asleep Outside the cabin door. Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li, Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Hush, now don't you cry! Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li, Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, That's an Irish lullaby.. + Informações |

Too Ra Loo Ra Loo Ra - An Irish Lullaby - by Terry Harrison 3.23 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 2240 exibições This is an old Irish lullaby that I recorded a number of years ago just to test a microphone. (The mic was a 1947 RCA 74B) I always wanted to record it with music but could never find a background track. So I just decided to upload it like it is. I have added family photos as well. I open it with a short clip from the Bing Crosby movie "Going My Way" from 1944. Dean Martin had an even better recording of this song in another movie titled "At War With The Army" in 1950. NO ONE, in my opinion can come close to singing this song as well as these two guys although I really do like Daniel O'Donnell's version. The song was written in 1914 by James Royce Shannon. I hope that some of you will like my version.. + Informações |
