This is just a quick video of Jacob's Dream in response to my "pardner" Hal's version, showing some of the acoustic guitar by the great Dan Tyminski of Union Station. I don't pretend to be anywhere near the guitarist Dan is. or Hal for that matter, but this is a great song and fun to play. Hey Pardner, I was using our PA system! This prayer is fundamentally about the Church. The video is presented inn the Spirit of Pentacost. God promises and fulfills and is forever faithful to those who put their trust in Him. Faith is a fortress, disbelief is fleeting. The faithful daughter is the Church who bears a present witness to the past and looks towards the future. Jacob's vision is that of the opening of the Kingdom of Heaven for the world; a to-and-fro exchange between Heaven and earth, via the Sacramental graces. The prayer also parallels the conversion of the sinner and his journey to Heaven with these graces. For this reason, the publican figure associated with the Jesus prayer ("O God be merciful to me, a sinner) is used to portray Jacob. The descend of graces ties the convert to the ladder to heaven, and the angels and Saints from all ages. The opening of Sacramental graces is like a physical dew. The manna from Heaven descended to the Israelites: Exodus 16:13-15 ... and in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp. 14 When the dew was gone, thin flakes like frost on the ground appeared on the desert floor. 15 When the Israelites saw it, they said to each other, "What is it?"
