Jack Kerr - Woodturned Art.avi 10.18 min. | 4.428571 avaliação | 6415 exibições Native American pottery, primitive to modern, inspires the design of my woodturnings. I am in awe of the beauty and diversity of its clean, simple form and basic decoration. Each piece speaks of the earth and tells the story of its creator. In my opinion, it is the quintessential art form. I try to always use reclaimed wood from naturally fallen branches or trees for my woodturnings. Since the devastating ice storm that struck this area in early 2009, I have not wanted for wood to turn. Most reclaimed wood is damaged by insects, rot, disease or other stress that would have made it fall or have to be removed in the first place. These imperfections in the wood are what I find most fascinating and are what I try to preserve in my turnings. I hope that my creations adequately convey the beauty that I see in wood and Native American art. Thank you for your interest in my work.. + Informações |

Underworld - Everybody Jack (Nevin Kocon Remake) 4.40 min. | 4.7777777 avaliação | 1991 exibições When I watched a video on the Native Instruments Channel I saw Daren Price introducing a few features on the "Maschine". The track he was making during that video gave me the idea to rebuild a song only from samples of that video. I used Ableton Live for that project and basicly I've seen that project as a cool practice to get into Live again. I know that the audio quality is not the best and there are some things not exactly timed so maybe I'll make a better version of that track. Have fun and please rate and comment. BTW the original video link: www.youtube.com I would love it, if u could share the song! :) All rights reserved. © & ® Native Instruments © & ® Underworld Live. + Informações |

Jack Cardwell - Im Not Lazy Im Just Tired (1953) 2.53 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 3158 exibições KING 1241 Jack was a native of the farm from Chapman, Alabama. He was a self-taught musician as he came from a family of non-musicians. From there he went to Mobile where he sold newspapers and then took advantage of every chance he could to perform professionally. Before Jack finished school at the Barton Academy in Mobile, he took a job as an electrician's helper, wanting to earn some money. He became rather proficient at it and would sail out of the Port of Mobile as chief electrician on many ships, but a back injury forced him into work that was less strenuous. Because of that, he began to turn to music as a career. During World War II, he served with the Navy. Around 1953 or so, he was being heard on a radio show called the "Tom 'n' Jack Show" on WKAB out of Mobile, Alabama. Back then, he was recording on the King record label. One of Jack Cardwell's first releases on the King label was a tribute to Hank Williams that reportedly sold over a half a million records! Jack met his wife while he and his band were playing a dance date in Mobile. And had a couple of boys, Jackie Carrol and James Robert. Jackie played the piano back then and James wanted to be a singer 'just like dad'. Interestingly, in about the only time we've ever seen it, the February 1955 Cowboy Songs article actually listed the street address where Jack lived in his 8-room house. And more so, they said the house was completely furnished by a furniture store that had been his sponsor on the radio for .... + Informações |

Curtis Amy & Dupree Bolton - Native Land 10.37 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 2358 exibições from"Katanga" Curtis Amy - ts & ss Dupree Bolton - tp Ray Crawford - g Jack Wilson - p Victor Gaskin - b Doug Sides - dr Tenor saxophonist Curtis Amy recorded six albums for Pacific Jazz during 1960-63. This CD reissue from 1998 has all of the music from his sixth set (Katanga) and half of the performances (three selections) from his fourth outing, Way Down. Amy had a fine hard bop-oriented style with a soulful sound. The Katanga date matched him with the legendary (and barely documented) trumpeter Dupree Bolton, guitarist Ray Crawford (heard in top form), pianist Jack Wilson, bassist Victor Gaskin and drummer Doug Sides on four originals, plus "A Shade of Brown" and "You Don't Know What Love Is." The other session finds Amy with a completely different group consisting of trumpeter Marcus Belgrave (one of his few recordings from the era), valve trombonist Roy Brewster, vibraphonist Roy Ayers (at the beginning of his career), bassist George Morrow and drummer Tony Bazley, performing three of Amy's tunes. Obscure but rewarding music that was overshadowed during the era and was previously long out of print. Recorded at Pacific Jazz Studios, Holywood, California (1963). A Pacific Jazz recording licensed from EMI Records Ltd. + Informações |

Dr. Anton Treuer (03-22-2012) "Historical Trauma" 90.87 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 374 exibições Keynote speaker Dr. Anton Treuer closes out Inver Hills Community College's Student/Faculty Conference. This year's theme was Flourishing in a World of Disasters. In this talk Dr. Treuer discusses some of the disasters visited upon American Indians, as well as how the effects of those disasters continue to linger even today. What makes this talk so powerful is that it does not simply attempt to lay blame, rather, Dr. Treuer offers possible solutions for growth and the possibility of authentic global flourishing. (NOTE: the camera needed reset every 30 minutes, which is why there are three "two second" breaks. NO content was lost in those, and the battery died right as Dr. Treuer cited Chris Rock and how racist does one have to be to turn down a day off of work just because it celebrates a black person. The talk ended right after that, so nothing of import was lost.) Thank you to all that helped make this happen!. + Informações |

Paiute Native American Shaman Wovoka and the Ghost Dance 6.65 min. | 4.892019 avaliação | 198278 exibições The Ghost Dance appeared during a time of desperation for the Native American Indian people. The Ghost Dance started when Paiute shaman Jack Wilson or Wovoka had a vision that if our people would dance and sing we Indians would live again. The Ghost Dance spread throughout the land. In Dec. 1890 the military panicked and massacred innocent Lakota Indian people at Wound Knee while they danced. It is one of the worse incidents in United States history. Judy Trejo - Summit Lake (Tommo Agi) and Walker River (Agi) Paiute and Anita Collins - Shoshone and Walker River Paiute speak about Wovoka. The Round Dance was a traditional Great Basin dance that spread across the land in the form of the Ghost Dance, and is now part of many celebrations. Billy Jack Ice Cream Shop 6.45 min. | 4.866667 avaliação | 84945 exibições Billy Jack, the movie released in 1971, centers around the character of the same name. Billy Jack, played by Tom Laughlin, is a Native American ex-Green Beret Vietnam War veteran who plays the hero. He takes it upon himself to make his mission to defend the hippie-themed Freedom School and its students from the machinations of racist who make life difficult for individuals living on a reservations. The film hit on a potent formula with this message in 1971, and went on to become one of the highest grossing of its time. The discrimination is exemplified when some of the children go into town for ice cream and are subject to bullying in this scene. Lyrics to the popular theme song "One Tin Soldier." Go ahead and hate your neighbor; go ahead and cheat a friend. Do it in the name of heaven; you can justify it in the end. There won't be any trumpets blowin' come the judgment day On the bloody morning after, one tin soldier rides away. + Informações |
