January 7, 1930) American country singer nicknamed the "Jolly Green Giant" Jack Greene is well known for his 1966 hit "There Goes My Everything." Hailing from Maryville, Tennessee, Greene got his start in the record business as a vocalist in Ernest Tubb's Texas Troubadours band, but he hardly had the same almost-on-key "twang" as his boss. In fact, Greene's smooth, pleasant sound contrasted a great deal with Tubb's blue-collar intonation. Greene learned guitar and drums but mined his vocal chords for a solid string of hit records from 1966-1969, including several with Jeannie Seely, who joined his road show and recorded duets with him for several years. In 1967, Greene was named Male Vocalist of the Year by the Country Music Association (CMA). The same year he captured CMA's Single of the Year, Song ofthe Year and Album of the Year for Dallas Frazier's composition "There Goes My Everything." Jack Green was born in Glasgow, Scotland. According to Wikipedia, he played with T. Rex between 1973 and 1974, then with The Pretty Things between 1974 and 1976. He also was the member of Rainbow for 3 weeks in late 1978. Jack then launched a solo career with the album Humanesque in 1980, followed by Reverse Logic in 1981, Mystique in 1983 and Latest Game in 1986. 'This is Japan' is off the album 'Humanesque, although I first heard it as a single. Great lyrics and themes, including the effect of modernisation on traditional culture.
