This piece is one of Charles Ives' most striking to me. In it the composer is playing with popular and traditional circus music, and unsettling the rhythm with his polytonality. The result is a somewhat playful and somewhat ominous bit of music like The Circus Band, which captures a sense of place and time and perhaps even the surreal sense of wonder. For some reason, this piece also always reminds me of Ray Bradbury's book "Something Wicked This Way Comes". Charles Ives was a fiercely independent and relatively obscure musician for most of his life. The son of a Civil War band musician, Ives studied music at Yale and received a firm classical background. The composer who was perhaps the most unique and independent of the 20th Century, (and perhaps one of the most influential figures in modern classical composition), also sold insurance, and spent the last decades of his life unable to properly write music.. + Informações

"Before He Cheats" at the May Fair in NE Philadelphia on May 19th , 2012 . This was the 5th annual May Fair... the stage was set up at Frankford & Cottman Aves / the triangle area on Ryan Ave. . It was beautiful day... it got hot in the afternoon and the crowd was a little late around the stage area because the bands didn't start until around 12:30pm , so the spent time along Frankford Ave. where there was lots and lots of fun and family things to do .
