Joy to the world. Isaac Watts. Piano 1.53 min. | 0 avaliação | 296 exibições Copyright © Joy to the world. Isaac Watts. Piano Partition : recyclagedecanettevide.blogspot.fr www.free-scores.com -------------------------------------- "Joy to the World" is a popular Christmas carol. The words are by English hymn writer Isaac Watts, based on Psalm 98 in the Bible. The song was first published in 1719 in Watts' collection; The Psalms of David: Imitated in the language of the New Testament, and applied to the Christian state and worship. Watts wrote the words of "Joy to the World" as a hymn glorifying Christ's triumphant return at the end of the age, rather than a Christmas song celebrating his first coming as a babe born in a stable. Only the second half of Watts' lyrics are still used today. The music was adapted and arranged to Watts' lyrics by Lowell Mason in 1839 from an older melody which was then believed to have originated from Handel, not least because the theme of the refrain (And heaven and nature sing...) appears in the orchestra opening and accompaniment of the recitative Comfort Ye from Handel's Messiah, and the first four notes match the beginning of the choruses Lift up your heads and Glory to God from the same oratorio. However, Handel did not compose the entire tune. The name "Antioch" is generally used for the tune. As of the late 20th century, "Joy to the World" was the most-published Christmas hymn in North America. ---------------------------------------------------- Joy to the world! the Lord is come; Let earth receive her King .... + Informações |

Joy To The World.mpg......Played On Tyros 2! 3.00 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1148 exibições My arrangement of "Joy To The World." I hope that you enjoy my version of this great Christmas carol!!! Please feel free to comment, and to "PLEASE RATE" the video..."THANKS!" History and background: Isaac watts, the writer of the song, wrote Joy to the World, almost 300 years ago, in 1719. Isaac Watts was heavily influenced by his father John Watts who was an extreme Non conformist and opted to attend a Non-conformist Academy at Stoke Newington in preference to a University. He was ordained as a Pastor of an Independent congregation and wrote a large number of hymns and carols based on the Psalms from the New Testament. To begin with, Watts was criticized for trying to improve Psalms but later the songs were appreciatively accepted and in 1728 Watts was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree by the University of Edinburgh. The music: Quite a few years after Isaac Watts death, the words of the hymn were put to music through the efforts of Lowell Mason. Dr. Mason did not write the music himself but improvised from another hymn called the Messiah by Frederick Handel. He had a great music career and composed more than 1600 devout works.. + Informações |
