Splendid descants from the boys. When I Survey The Wondrous Cross Hymn When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the death of Christ my God! All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood. See from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down! Did eer such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown? His dying crimson, like a robe, Spreads oer His body on the tree; Then I am dead to all the globe, And all the globe is dead to me. Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all.. + Informações |

Psalm 90 by Isaac Watts (vocal with words) 3.03 min. | 1.0 avaliação | 242 exibições OUR God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home, Under the shadow of thy throne Thy saints have dwelt secure; Sufficient is thine arm alone, And our defence is sure. Before the hills in order stood, Or earth received her frame, From everlasting thou art God, To endless years the same. Thy word commands our flesh, "To dust Return ye sons of men:" All nations rose from earth at first And turn to earth again. A thousand ages in thy sight Are like an evening gone, Short as the watch that ends the night Before the rising sun. The busy tribes of flesh and blood, With all their lives and cares, Are carried downward by thy flood, And lost in following years. Time, like an ever-rolling stream, Bears all its sons away: They fly forgotten, as a dream Dies at the opening day. Like flowery fields the nations stand, Pleas'd with the morning light, The flowers beneath the mower's hand Lie withering ere 'tis night. Our God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Be thou our guard while troubles last, And our eternal home.. + Informações |

Far too many Christians shy away for the symbols of blood and the cross. Without the cross there is no salvation. Without His blood we have no hope. Psalm 72 by Isaac Watts (vocal with music, words) 1.52 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 341 exibições Jesus shall reign where'er the sun Does his successive journeys run; His kingdom stretch from shore to shore, Till moons shall wax and wane no more. Behold the islands with their kings, And Europe her best tribute brings; From north and south the princes meet, To pay their homage at His feet. There Persia, glorious to behold, There India shines in eastern gold; And barb'rous nations at His word Submit, and bow, and own their Lord. For Him shall endless prayer be made, And praises throng to crown His head; His Name like sweet perfume shall rise With every morning sacrifice. People and realms of every tongue Dwell on His love with sweetest song; And infant voices shall proclaim Their early blessings on His Name. Blessings abound wherever He reigns; The prisoner leaps to lose his chains; The weary find eternal rest, And all the sons of want are blessed. Where He displays His healing power, Death and the curse are known no more: In Him the tribes of Adam boast More blessings than their father lost. Let every creature rise and bring Peculiar honors to our King; Angels descend with songs again, And earth repeat the loud amen!. + Informações |

410. Morte Christe (Isaac Watts, Emrys Jones) 2.85 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1691 exibições A song I put up for Easter. The English hymn, "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross", represents quite a breakthrough in hymn-writing. Before it was written, church songs tended to be merely metered renditions of the Psalms intoned by a cantor and then repeated by the congregation. Isaac Watts (1674-1748) wrote these lyrics as a young man and went on to write some 750 hymns, many of which are still used in church services today. He is justly known as "the father of English hymnody." "When I Survey" was first published in "Hymns and Spiritual Songs" in 1707. There are several tunes associated with this hymn, but the one used by the Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice Choir is "Morte Christe", the Welsh setting by Emrys Jones. Although we have the Welsh translation of this song, we only sing the English lyrics, at least for the relatively short time I have been a member of the choir. My attempt at a solo rendition is based on the first tenor part I sing in the choir, but in a more comfortable key. Note: I have been asked if the HK Welsh Male Voice Choir is a religious choir. Only if rugby counts as a religion! You can see a playlist of my gospel songs here: www.youtube.com My website is www.raymondcrooke.com. + Informações |

Isaac Watts - A Prospect of Heaven Makes Death Easy 1.08 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 237 exibições March 6, 2010. Isaac Watts was born in Southampton, England in 1674. He was educated at the local Nonconformist prison and his father eventually became an Nonconformist. Watts died in 1748. A Prospect of Heaven Makes Death Easy There is a land of pure delight Where saints immortal reign; Infinite day excludes the night, And pleasures banish pain. There everlasting spring abides, And never-withering flowers; Death like a narrow sea divides This heavenly land from ours. Sweet fields beyond the swelling flood Stand dressed in living green: So to the Jews old Canaan stood, While Jordan rolled between. But timorous mortals start and shrink To cross this narrow sea, And linger shivering on the brink, And fear to launch away. Oh could we make our doubts remove, These gloomy doubts that rise, And see the Canaan that we love, With unbeclouded eyes; Could we but climb where Moses stood And view the landscape o'er, Not Jordan's stream, nor death's cold flood, Should fright us from the shore.Copy written materials are not mine and copy rights are retained by their respective owner(s).
