***NOTE: This is the *original version* of this slash fanfic parody. I put up a refit (Feb. '09): "Kirk/Spock: Virgil Says Don't Sleep", set to Puccini's aria "Nessun Dorma". But I like this one too, so I'm leaving it up. Virgil's Roman epic + Star Trek = a slash parody of bodice-ripping proportions. And I finally got to use my Classics degree for something! I was inspired to create this mashup by a series of riotously funny ST (TOS) fan-fics written in the style of famous authors (Jane Austen!). Some of this vid follows their model (the egg comparison, for instance). (You can link to them here: fanlore.org/wiki/Rude_Person ) No one had ransacked Book IV of Virgil's "Aeneid" (1st cent. BCE); but it closely follows the proto-K/S plot: there's a ship/shuttle-wreck; two friends seek shelter from a storm in a cave; an meddlesome force (the goddess Juno or Pon Farr) inflames one of them with desire; they turn to each other... and, you know... A big difference being Virgil's lovers do not meet a happy ending. So, you see, I felt I had to fill the gap, and I wrote a long version [too long to paste here]; then decided to illustrate it with screencaps; then it needed music ("Relax," by Frankie Goes to Hollywood) ...and here we are. So, thanks all Trekk-ies/ers who aren't content to let well enough alone, but bring their hearts and minds and hands to the work of mixing stuff up.
