Horslips were a 1970s Irish Celtic rock band that composed, arranged and performed their music based on traditional Irish jigs and reels. They are regarded as the fathers of Celtic rock for their fusion of traditional Irish music with rock music and went on to inspire many local and international acts. Recorded in 1974, Horslips' third album, Dancehall Sweethearts, was the first of two produced by Fritz Fryer at Rockfield Studios in Monmouth, Wales and was notable for the inclusion of choral and brass arrangements. Borrowing from the story of the celebrated 18th century Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan as the central theme for some its songs, the album included 'The Blind Can't Lead The Blind', 'Sunburst', 'Blindman', 'Mad Pat' and concert favourite 'King Of The Fairies', all of which feature as extracts in this video. Released on February 24th 2012 and available through www.horslips.ie and all good retailers is the final album in the remastered digipak CD series of the original 12 HORSLIPS albums, spanning 1972-1980. HAPPY TO MEET, SORRY TO PART (1972), Horslips' début LP, was notable not only for bringing the band's highly original fusion of traditional folk, rock and blues to the mainstream market, but also for its ambitious and expensively manufactured concertina-shaped package, designed by mandolin, fiddle & concertina player, Charles O'Connor. From a creative and technical perspective, the new digipak reissue was also a challenging project, hence the delayed release. Now the faithfully remastered back catalogue is complete, and this video demonstrates the intricate beauty of its final addition.
