The Birds And The Bees (HD) 2.13 min. | 4.9 avaliação | 2793 exibições ? The Birds and the Bees was released on Era Records for whom Akens had already cut one single fronting the doo-wop group Turnarounds. Era's owner Herb Newman pitched The Birds and the Bees, a song written by his teenage son, to be the Turnarounds' next single. As Akens was the only group member to favor the song, he recorded it solo in 1964, working through four or five different arrangements considerably honing the work of Newman's son; the completed track would assign songwriting credit to Barry Stuart. The Teddy Bears - To Know Him is To Love Him 1958 45-Dore (Canada) 503-A.wmv 2.38 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 2790 exibições Phil Spector (guitar, vocals), Annette Kleinbard (vocals), Marshall Leib (vocals), Harvey Goldstein (vocals, 1958).. Phil Spector. As a senior at Fairfax High in Los Angeles, Phil wrote the song To Know Him Is To Love Him, the title being taken from the epitath on his father's tombstone. Together with Annette Klinebard and Marshall Leib they auditioned for Herb Newman and Lou Bedell's Era records, home to Art & Dottie Todd and Gogi Grant. Era liked what they heard and an agreement was drawn up to record for Era's Doré label. Time was booked at Gold Star Studios in the summer of 1958. The group, known as The Teddy Bears, supplemented by drummer Sandy Nelson laid down four tracks in these sessions, and from these, To Know Him is To Love Him was selected as the top side of the first single. The investment of US$75 resulted in Phil, only 17 at the time, having written, arranged, performed and producing one of the best selling records of the late 50s. While the record was slow to garner airplay, eventually it reached number 1 in the USA, staying there for 3 weeks. In total the record was in the top 100 for a total of 23 weeks. In Canada it reached number 1 on the CHUM charts in Toronto in December, and in the UK it hit number 1 at that same time. In many ways, the Teddy Bear's year at the top would be a microcosm of Phil's future. After To Know Him is To Love Him would top the charts, the group moved on to Imperial. These recordings, including an LP with a twee cover photo of .... + Informações |

Donnie Brooks - Doll House 2.42 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 2727 exibições PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948's oldies classics. LINK: tinyurl.com Singer Donnie Brooks remains best known for the 1960 pop smash "Mission Bell," although he is also revered in rockabilly fan circles for the cult classic "Bertha Lou," recorded under the name Johnny Faire. Born John Dee Abohosh in Dallas on February 6, 1936, he was later adopted by his stepfather and given the new surname Fairecloth. While growing up in southern California, he studied under the same vocal coach who previously instructed Eddie Fisher, and in high school made his professional debut on a classical music showcase broadcast by Ventura-based station KBCC. After graduating from high school, Fairecloth earned his living singing at local clubs, fairs, and weddings, embracing rock & roll and in 1957 signing to local indie Fable Records to cut his debut single, "You Gotta Walk the Line," credited to Johnny Faire. While cutting demos for the Surf label, he learned that contractual obligations were forcing friend and mentor Dorsey Burnette to abandon a completed track dubbed "Bertha Lou." Surf agreed to erase Burnette's vocal and insert Faire's performance instead, and while the resulting 1958 single earned scant attention on its original release, it is now revered as a lost classic of the rockabilly era. From there Faire adopted the alias Johnny Jordan long enough to record .... + Informações |
