65-note roll (early 1900s) Patented by the Vocalstyle Music Co, Cincinnati, Ohio One of only a very few rolls I have that has words printed on it. Most 65-note rolls did not and these are mostly found on the 88-note rolls. I tried to position the camera so that the words are legible on the right margin. Very unusual for a 65-note roll to have such narrow perforation (almost like an 88-note roll). Sometimes you can detect where a sustained note sounds again due to almost closure of the hole. Advantage is that the tracking and support on the longer notes is better.. + Informações

S. Carey of the band Bon Iver performing live at Henry Miller Memorial Library in Big Sur, CA on 5/22/11. An amazing venue, breathtaking really. I had taped the encore but for some reason it had no sound, thankfully someone else was taping and you can see it here: www.youtube.com . Nice the way S. Carey doesn't even stop in between most songs, just one long musical suite. S. Carey is like a cross between Talk Talk's seminal Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock records as far as the art jazz sound, Brian Eno and Bill Frisell for atmospherics, Brian Wilson of the beach boys sense of melody ( We Fell is a great example ) , and Nick Drake's understanding of cloudy, rainy days. I can't decide which is my new favorite band, S. Carey or Chris Robinson Brotherhood, so i'll just make both of them my new favs. Chris Robinson Brotherhood is performing at the Henry Miller library in Big Sur on may 28-29, also presented by Folk Yeah! www.folkyeah.com . ''I've written this play for you,'' the author wrote in a note. The play was a one-character vehicle about Edmund Kean, the brilliant 19th-century British actor regarded as one of the greatest Shakespearean actors of all time. The Death of General Wolfe: This ballad about a hero of the French and Indian War appeared in American manuscripts in the 1790's, on broadside sheets and in songsters in the 19th Century. It has been collected from oral tradition in 20th Century as "Brave Wolfe." 9. He Comes, the Hero Comes!: Henry Carey's rousing song in the masque "Brittania" (London, 1734) was often re-used for public musical "greetings." 10. The President's March: Philip Phyle (c. 1734-1793) was a Hessian soldier-musician who was captured at Trenton in 1776. He chose to stay in America after the war and in 1784 he became leader of the orchestra of the Old American Company in Philadelphia. In 1789, he wrote this march which may have been played at Washington's inauguration in New York. This version was written out by a fifer in Washington's army. The tune was immensely popular and when Joseph Hopkinson wrote the lyrics beginning "Hail Columbia" it achieved immortality.. + Informações
