This is from Helen Forrest's final album "Now and Forever" which she recorded in Jan 1983. She is accompanied by an all-star band which included Hank Jones on piano, Frank Wess on sax, Bob Zottola on trumpet, Grady Tate on drums and George Duvivier on bass. As this recording demonstrates, Helen was singing better than ever at this time. Sadly within two years, her health began to deteriorate. MORE THAN YOU KNOW From the Broadway Musical Production "GREAT DAY" Words by Billy Rose and Edward Eliscu Music by Vincent Youmans Vocal by Helen Forrest with Benny Goodman and His Orchestra Recorded December 18, 1940 Columbia 55002 Helen Forrest (1917 - 1999) was a leading band vocalist during the 1930s and 1940s, featured with Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman and Harry James during their prime years. She had a strong but warm voice and interpreted lyrics sensitively. Early in her career she sang on Radio as "Bonnie Blue", The Blue Lady and sang with her brother's band in Washington DC She rose fast after joining Artie Shaw late in the summer of 1938 and then Benny Goodman in December 1939 after Shaw abruptly quit. In August 1941 she sang for Harry James and recorded such hits as "I Don't want to Walk Without You", "I Had the Craziest Dream", and "I've heard that Song Before." She appeared in several movie during the 1940s. Became a single in 1943 and played clubs and theatres. In late 1944 she teamed with singing star Dick Haymes on radio show which continued as popular series for several years. She remained active with recordings through the 1950s and 1960s and occasionally on TV. In her later years she worked clubs again.. + Informações
