It features an incredible vocal performance by Teddy Pendergrass. As much as I love rock n roll, there is another genre that I love just as much....Philly soul. Sweet Philly soul was the music of my youth.....ever present on am radio. There was just an unbelievable amount of great music that was produced in Philadelphia during the early to late 70's.The music typically consists of incredibly gorgeous melodies, lots of horns, sweeping lush strings....and singing.....singing like most of today's most popular artists wished they could sing like. Have been wanting to do some Sweet Philly since starting with my videos....but man, which one?! Finally settled on Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes's "I Miss You" from 1972. This song epitomizes everything great and special about Philly soul......and Teddy Pendergrass's vocals achieved absolute perfection. Wanted to use images of Philadelphia for the song (all except the awesome picture of the old beer joint, which I couldn't resist)...really wanted things from the 1970's but just couldn't come up with enough. Theodore DeReese "Teddy" Pendergrass, Sr. (March 26, 1950 - January 13, 2010) was an American R&B/soul singer and songwriter. Pendergrass first rose to fame as lead singer of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes in the 1970s before a successful solo career at the end of the decade. In 1982, he was severely injured in an auto accident in Philadelphia, resulting in his being paralyzed from the waist down. After his injury, the affable entertainer founded the Teddy Pendergrass Alliance, a foundation which helps those with spinal cord injuries. Teddy Pendergrass was born to Ida Geraldine Epps and Jesse Pendergrass (murdered in 1962), who left when Pendergrass was young and was not a part of his life. He was a student at the old Thomas Edison High School for Boys in Philadelphia. Teddy sang with the Edison Mastersingers. However, he dropped out in the 11th grade to go into the music business. According to author Robert Ewell Greene, Pendergrass was ordained a minister as a youngster. Later he was to become a drummer for a band, and later lead singer. The church was his initiation for talent and eventual success. Pendergrass's career began when he was a drummer for The Cadillacs, which soon merged with Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. Melvin invited Pendergrass to become the lead singer after he jumped from the rear of a stage and started singing his heart out. Months later the group signed with Gamble & Huff on the then-CBS subsidiary Philadelphia International Records in 1972. The .... + Informações
