H5N1 The Next Pandemic? Part 1 10.12 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 5029 exibições For more than a decade a strain of avian influenza that first appeared in Southeast Asia has threatened to ignite a deadly pandemic. The H5N1 variant has nearly all the features of a virus capable of killing tens of millions of people, but it has not yet acquired a single key trait: the ability to spread efficiently from person to person. Experts say when that day comes a deadly pandemic will begin. Organizers of the third annual International Symposium on Agroterrorism commissioned Nusura to shoot and produce the film, "H5N1 -- The Next Pandemic?" to provide background on the topic and lay the groundwork for the week's presentations and related panel discussions. Nusura traveled to northern Vietnam - the place where H5N1 has killed more people than almost anywhere else in the world - to learn what worked and what didn't and to share these lessons learned with the global community through the symposium.. + Informações |

CENSORED: H5N1 Research 8.48 min. | 4.826087 avaliação | 2109 exibições A new controversy over H5N1, a particular bird flu virus where now two teams of researchers have found mutations that can turn H5N1 from a bird flu to a mammal flu. A federal advisory board is asking for some of the results to be kept secret and not published out in the open. They're afraid that if the research got into the wrong hands, it could be used to create a biological weapon. So what's more important transparency or Secrecy for the sake of safety? Debating research into mutant H5N1 flu virus - by Nature Video 5.62 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 4110 exibições On 2 February, scientists and public health officials squared off in a panel discussion at the New York Academy of Sciences. At stake, the fate of two papers which describe a mutant strain of the avian influenza virus H5N1. The virus is capable of mammal-to-mammal transmission, which has raised concern that it might be transferable to humans. Several panelists sat down with Nature News to discuss their positions prior to the panel discussion. H5N1 Bird Flu Appears in Hong Kong 1.87 min. | 4.7894735 avaliação | 1582 exibições For more news and videos visit ? ?english.ntdtv.com? Follow us on Twitter ? ?http Add us on Facebook ? ?on.fb.me The H5N1 virus, commonly known as bird flu, has re-appeared in poultry in Hong Kong. Officials are culling 17-thousand chickens as a precaution, in a bid to stop the spread of the virus. Workers began culling 17000 chickens at Hong Kong's largest wholesale poultry market on Wednesday. It comes after a dead chicken there tested positive for the deadly H5N1 avian virus, according to a government spokesman. The Hong Kong government also suspended imports of live chickens from mainland China and the trading of live chickens for 21 days... in a bid to prevent any spread of the virus. It's normally found in birds, but can jump to humans. It's caused quite the frustration among poultry workers. [Poultry Worker]: "It's not fair. You should do the testing for live chicken only in that certain area and if you find the virus in that area then we are happy to let you kill them. But if you only pick dead chickens for testing then we don't like that idea." The government announced the measures late on Tuesday after a dead chicken at the city's main wholesale market and two wild birds tested positive for the virus. [Poultry Worker]: "We have lost around half of our business. We only have frozen chicken now, it's the only way." People do not have immunity to the H5N1 virus and researchers worry it could mutate in humans into a form that would spread around the world and .... + Informações |

NWO Scientists Create Killer H5N1 Bird Flu Virus For Next Possible False Flag Pandemic 1.63 min. | 4.826087 avaliação | 6141 exibições Rotterdam - The University of Rotterdam researchers in the Netherlands have created a mutated H5N1 bird virus. Made in the lab, the virus could not only go pandemic but is considered lethal to over 50% of those it affects. To put it in plain English, a virus with the potential to kill up to half the world's population has been made in a lab, genetically altered to become much more contagious. The fight between academics and bioterrorism experts is whether or not to publish the recipe for anyone to replicate the virus, and whether the research should have been done in the first place. "This shows clearly that H5 can change in a way that allows transmission and still cause severe disease in humans. It's scary," says Peter Doherty, a 1996 Nobel prizewinner for work in viral immunology, in the New Scientist article, "Five easy mutations to make bird flu a lethal pandemic." In the lab, the University of Rotterdam research team gave the H5N1 virus three mutations that were known to adapt bird flu to mammals, which killed ferrets even though the virus did not transmit between them. The second trial saw the researchers giving the H5N1 to even more ferrets, repeating the process ten times. Up until this time, none of the H5N1 virus had spread ... at least until the tenth round. At this time the shedding of the H5N1 virus had spread to ferrets in separate cages, killing them in the process. Malik Peiris of the University of Hong Kong, a flu virologist, says this means H5N1 .... + Informações |

Stan and Ron discuss the recent recommendation by the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB) to withhold some of the key data regarding transmissibility from recent research on the H5N1 virus. Ron explains how the NSABB was created and the role they play together with the American Society for Microbiology in attempting to establish a set of guidelines used to safeguard the scientific knowledge base from being misused. Ron discusses the need for this research to emerge from it's current moratorium and continue in order to remain a step ahead of the virus in an attempt to be alerted to possible future pandemics.. + Informações |
