After touring for "Flip Flop", Guadalcanal Diary played a few summer shows, including AquaFest in Austin, Tx. This footage captured from the stage with a borrowed camcorder - time/date stamp accidentally switched on mid-performance. After this they played their final shows in Athens (Legion Field) and Atlanta (Center Stage). From 1996 through 1999 they performed a few shows in Athens/Atlanta then remained dormant until their 30th Anniversary shows at AthFest in Athens 6/25/11 - athfest.com and Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta 7/2/11 - www.guadalcanaldiary.com. This is some of the earliest footage of the band. 688 was a good place to play and had proper production. It wasn't without it quirks, though. The support pole right of down center stage was an interesting challenge and the dressing room was located in front of the club (opposite the stage). You could walk through the club to the stage if it wasn't crowded, otherwise your option was to exit the front and go around to the back stage door. Murray refers to their 1983 EOD EP release "Watusi Rodeo", which contained "Michael Rockefeller", "Liwa Wechi", "John Wayne", and "Dead Eyes". Guadalcanal Diary commemorated their 30th Anniversary with an Athfest Show 6/25/11 and an Atlanta show at Smith's Olde Bar 7/2/11. Guadalcanal Diary is an alternative jangle pop group. They originated in Marietta, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, but they were often billed as being "from Athens, Georgia" in the early 1980s. The band formed in 1981 (originally as "Emergency Broadcast System") and disbanded in 1989. They reformed in 1997, but never recorded any new material. After breaking up again in 2000, Guadalcanal Diary temporarily reunited for a second time in 2011 for Athfest, where they celebrated their 30th anniversary. This underappreciated Georgia quartet distinguished itself from any number of smart, tuneful American guitar combos by combining accessible songcraft with provocatively twisted lyrics. Singer/guitarist Murray Attaway's songs reflect a bizarre variety of far-flung interests, from a preoccupation with the supernatural to a fascination with American cultural imperialism; the band delivers them all with rootsy irony.. + Informações
