While listening through a bunch of samples ripped from Banjo-Kazooie (instruments and voiceovers) I came upon this. When sped up to 2x, it sounds like "Steven Mayles, boys in pails" or "Steven Mayles, boys impales". (It's common for samples to be stored at slower- or faster-than-normal speeds within a game's data) It's not encountered anywhere within normal gameplay. Steve Mayles was credited as "Chief Scribbler" (writer) in Banjo-Kazooie and is credited in many other Rare games. He is the brother of Banjo team leader Gregg Mayles. It's probably just a forgotten joke made at Rare, but interesting nonetheless. I was experimenting with the seagull glitch, when I noticed something strange. When you play the track "Shopping Around Town", and shoot the Clockwork Kazooie egg and blow it up underneath Blackeye's table, you hear the seagulls from Treasure Trove Cove. Duh. But here's the weird part. When you're near the treasure chests in Blackeye's room, it sounds like a mix of the tracks "Shopping Around Town", "Treasure Trove Cove", "Aquatic Treasure Trove Cove" (When you're swimming in Treasure Trove Cove), and when you're at the lighthouse in Treasure Trove Cove. One of the reasons why their games were so memorable was because they took advantage of the standard jump 'n' run formula and its expectations, and added hidden surprises that would actually throw you for a few loops. Take for example the random, but the hilariously evil boss Mingy Jongo. You enter Mumbo Jumbo's skull knowing at that point that there is a new animal transformation at hand, but what you get instead is a sudden boss battle! I really like that idea, that's just a great way to make a boss battle memorable. Again, I wouldn't know what the real battle is like (though I heard it is pretty easy), but it must have been a great boss battle for a few other reasons: - The robot is deliciously evil, spouting out corny evil phrases like "My elaborate disguise is ruined, revealing my evil cybotic-ness!". :P - He looks like a terminator, ie he IS a terminator. 0_0 - The boss battle music especially is very sinister.
