Devon Loch Grand National Disaster, 1956. One of the most famous Grand Nationals of all time where the late Dick Francis gallops towards the finish line on HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother's horse, Devon Loch. Dick is just yards away from the finish line and is undoubtedly about to win the race when Devon inexplicably jumps up and falls to his stomach. It looks as though the horse sees a fence in front of him. ESB, the horse behind, swoops past Devon Loch who is still scrambling to his feet and wins the Grand National. The Queen Mother famously said, "Oh that's racing" and Dick Francis retired from racing the following year and turned his hand to crime writing. YouTube's largest collection of automotive variety! In today's video, we will take an up close and personal in depth look at the understated muscle car of the late 80s, the Buick Grand National, this one specifically the Regal T-Type. The GN and the T-Type are identical except for badging and interior trim. It wasn't until you stepped it on up to the GNX did you get the truly different package (which I will explain in the video). The GN is arguably the most menacing looking buick of all time with it's black monochrome paint scheme and turbo charged 3.8 V6 pumping out amazing performance numbers for the time period, even today! A unique experience to be able to check out one of these beasts. During this presentation, we will take a 1st person look at what the vehicle is all about beginning with the start up, performance data, fuel economy, the occasional track data, and build quality. Also, I will teach you how to use most of the interior and exterior features in a detailed fashion, that before, you could only get from going to a dealership yourself! Foinavon Wins Grand National after Huge Pile Up Causes Race Shambles (1967). The 1967 Grand National was the scene of one the most notorious pile ups in Grand National history . Foinavon had odds of 100/1 to win the race. Even his owner Cyril Watkins did not bother to attend Aintree because the chances of a win were wholly improbable. As expected, Foinavon did not play a competitive part in the race until at the 23rd fence, a loose horse cut across the riders causing all the horses to either fall, unseat their riders or refuse to jump. Foinavon and his rider, John Buckingham, are so far behind that they manage to bypass the shambles, jump the fence and take a lead of 200 yards. Although most riders were able to remount, no one managed to quite catch up with horse and rider. Sadly no owner or trainer were in the winners enclosure to congratulate them! Ostacoli particolarmente pericolosi, sia perché sono costituiti tradizionalmente da siepi e muri (e quindi i cavalli non possono vedere oltre), sia perché spesso sono seguiti da fossati. Sabato scorso ci hanno lasciato la vita due purosangue, due ennesime vittime. Il verificarsi di cadute è scontato. Secondo quanto riportato nell'articolo de La Repubblica, negli ultimi 50 anni sono morti 36 cavalli nel solo Grand National. Nell'ippica inglese ben 41 cavalli hanno perso la vita dall'inizio di quest'anno in varie competizioni, 23 nel solo mese di marzo. Gli esperti affermano che il bilancio delle vittime sarebbe ancora più alto, se alcune corse non fossero state cancellate a causa del maltempo. This is the Grand National horse race from Saturday 3rd April 1993. The race was 'run' around 4pm that day, but had to be abandoned as after a second false start some riders did not actually realise this and took their horses around the entire course! This clip is from 'Match of the Day The Road to Wembley' aired that evening (also on the programme was the Sheff Utd vs Sheff Wed FA Cup Semi-Final highlights). The BBC has covered every Grand National since 1960 on the TV (radio coverage dates back to 1927). In the year when the BBC covers its last National, for the time being, this is a reminder of how Grandstand covered the race back in 1997. It was momentous for two reasons: (1) it was to be Peter O'Sullevan's last National commentary and (2) in the event, the race didn't take place. A coded bomb alert message was received and the Aintree course had to be evacuated. The presenter that afternoon was Desmond Lynam. There's a chat with O'Sullevan who reveals that his race binoculars are from an old German sub. We see the Princess Royal reveal a bronze bust of the great commentator. As the course is evacuated Jim McGrath commentates and the TV coverage moves to the car park as Des speaks to former BBC commentator Julian Wilson and a tearful Jenny Pitman amongst others. In the OB van are Richard Pitman and Peter Scudamore. As the recording ends Des hands back to the Grandstand studio and Gary Lineker, who presumably was hanging around since Football Focus (and preparing for that evening's Match of the Day). The race was postponed until the following Monday afternoon and was won by Lord Gyllene.. + Informações
