Pedro I was born April 19, 1320 and was the third (and ultimately the only surviving) son of King Alfonso IV. When King Alfonso arranged a marriage between Pedro and Constance of Penafiel to solidify an alliance with the Prince of Villena, Ines de Castro, the [illegitimate] daughter of an elite Castilian land-owner, arrived with Constance as her lady-in-waiting. Pedro and Ines were smitten with each other almost on sight, and they were soon deeply embroiled in a scandalous affair that continued until Constance's death in 1345. King Alfonso, ashamed of his son's behavior and the reflection it had on the image of the royal family, banished Ines from court. The effectiveness of this move was short lived, as Pedro and Ines found a way to live with one another in secret. Such was the way of love, Pedro started offering Ines's brothers important positions at court, a move which informed King Alfonso that Pedro's relationship with Ines was still intact and strengthening. I usually don't post up all my work online, 'cause I'm not really one to search for praise and what not. I completely respect teachers/choreographers and crews posting up videos to showcase their hard work, but again, I've grown to understand that posting up videos should be for good intentions.. not to boost your ego. ANYWAYS, not my main point but just trying to get that message out there.. keep reading if you're not bored :) I'm not pretending that dance is my life, but its real evident in my life, so I feel this is an appropriate time to share what dance means to me. I made this piece a few weeks back in November. During this time I was feeling real confused and about a lot of factors; school, dance, friends, what I want in life, what pressure people are putting on me, the community etc. Noemo or anything, but this song basically sums up how I felt, and it was a real good way for me to let it out.
