Available from Country Family Reunion www.cfrvideos.com The Statler Brothers were an American country music vocal group founded in 1955 in Staunton, Virginia. Originally performing gospel music at local churches, the group billed themselves as The Four Star Quartet, and later The Kingsmen. In 1963, when the song "Louie, Louie" by the garage rock band also called The Kingsmen became famous, the group elected to bill themselves as The Statler Brothers. Despite the name, only two members of the group (Don and Harold Reid) are actual brothers and none have the surname of "Statler". The band, in fact, named themselves after a brand of facial tissue they had noticed in a hotel room (they joked that they could have turned out to be the Kleenex Brothers). Don Reid sang lead. Harold Reid, Don's older brother, sang bass. Phil Balsley sang baritone and Jimmy Fortune sang tenor after replacing original tenor Lew DeWitt in the early 1980s due to the latter's ill health.DeWitt died on August 15, 1990 of heart and kidney disease, stemming from complications of Crohn's disease. The band's style was closely linked to their gospel roots. "We took gospel harmonies," said Harold Reid, "and put them over in country music." The group remained closely tied to their gospel roots, with a majority of their records containing at least one gospel song. They produced several albums containing only gospel music and recorded a tribute song to the Blackwood Brothers, who influenced their music.. + Informações

Since I wanted to show pretty much the full performances and not just single notes, I had to choose among dozens of amazing performances and I picked the ones who synthesized and yet fully showcased her vocal talent. Al was born in Arkansas and started singing gospel music at a young age. His musical influences, particularly Jackie Wilson, were mostly R&B so when he gravitated in that direction it was no surprise to his family. "Let's Stay Together" was his second chart single following "Tired Of Being Alone", and this recording set the standard for Rhythm and Blues for most of the decade of the 1970's. Dante' is known foremost as a versatile drummer with chops ranging from Jazz, Rock, Latin, Funk, R&B, Hip Hop & Gospel. As an Internationally endorsed drummer his career history spans 17 years. Dante' was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, and is a self taught drummer. He began playing professionally at the age of 16 with Gospel legend Daryl Coley. Remaining true to his Gospel Roots, Dante' continues to play at his local church and has recorded with artists such as Demetrius Tolefree, James Jackson and Juanita Wynn just to name a few. Wanting to gain exposure to a wide variety of music at an early age, he started touring with Oakland based group African Rain and International Drum Master Baba Olatunji. Dante's interest in Jazz, Fusion and world music was further developed while playing with Jazz greats such as Joe Lucito,Juan Escovito, Ricardo Scales & Lloyd Gregory. Known as an "On Demand" drummer. Dante' has played with The Coup, Too Short, The X-ecutioners, and The BLACK Experience. No stranger to funk and R&B, He grooves with Robin Duhe, Dwayne Wiggins, and continues to support local musicians in the Bay Area music scene. Dante can also "Get Big" when he gets his rock on with San Jose Hard Rock band LoveKraft.
