Gordon Jenkins arr. Bill Douglas "Goodbye" for Clarinet and String Orch. - Garrick Zoeter, Clarinet 4.95 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 336 exibições Clarinetist Garrick Zoeter performs with the Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jan Wagner - Armstrong Hall Winchester VA September 24, 2011 This work is a clarinet and string orchestra version made by Bill Douglas of the instrumental ballad Goodbye written for Benny Goodman by Gordon Jenkins. Goodman used this work as his broadcast sign off tune. This version was made for clarinetist Richard Stoltzman to play with string quartet as a memorial to Benny Goodman upon Goodman's sudden death in 1986. I have always been a huge fan of Richard Stoltzman, thus I have "borrowed" many of the jazz inflections/additions he plays on his own recording of the work. I performed this work as an encore preceded by the Copland Clarinet Concerto to be posted soon!. + Informações |

Billie Holiday ft Gordon Jenkins Orchestra - God Bless The Child (1950) 3.22 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 47 exibições "God Bless the Child" is a song written by Billie Holiday and Arthur Herzog, Jr. in 1939, first recorded on May 9, 1941 under the Okeh label. Holiday's version of the song was honored with the Grammy Hall of Fame Award in (1976). It was also included in the list of Songs of the Century, by the Recording Industry Association of America and the National Endowment for the Arts. In her autobiography Lady Sings the Blues Holiday indicated an argument with her mother over money led to the song. She indicated that during the argument she said the line "God bless the child that's got his own." The anger over the incident led her to turn that line into a starting point for a song, which she worked out in conjunction with Herzog. In his 1990 book Jazz Singing, Will Friedwald indicates it as "sacred and profane" as it references the Bible while indicating that religion seems to have no effect in making people treat each other better. The lyrics refer to an unspecified Biblical verse: "Them that's got shall get, them that don't shall lose, so the Bible says, and it still is news. . . . " This likely refers to Matthew 25:29 or Luke 8:18.. + Informações |

Gordon Jenkins - Rose, Rose, I Love You ????????? 2.65 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 1817 exibições solo singer: Cisco Huston single: Rose, Rose, I Love You (1951) words: Wilfrid Thomas music: ??????? Rose, Rose, I love you, with your almond eyes Fragrant and slender, 'neath tropical skies I must cross the seas again and never see you more Way back to my home on a distant shore Make way, oh, make way, for my Eastern Rose Men crowd in dozens, everywhere she goes In her rickshaw, on the street, or in a cabaret "Please make way for Rose," you can hear them say All my life I shall remember Oriental music and you in my arms Perfumed flowers in your tresses Lotus-scented breezes and swaying palms Rose, Rose, I leave you, my ship is in the bay Kiss me farewell now, there's nothin' to say East is East, and West is West, our worlds are far apart I must leave you now but I leave my heart Rose, Rose, I love you, with an aching heart What is your future, now we have to part Standing on the jetty as the steamer moves away Flower of Malaya, I cannot stay. + Informações |
