Many years ago, british guitar master Gordon Giltrap met Focus legendary guitarist Jan Akkerman in a festival. But he never had the chance to meet the other Focus legendary man, Thijs Van Leer. This chance happened due to their presence at the Gouveia Art Rock 2009 festival. During his sunday morning guitar workshop at the Gouveia Library he recalled Thijs' generous tribute to Volapük just the night before (another video we uploaded) and decided to ask him, out of nowhere, to play an improvisation over one of his tunes. Thijs and his flute are only one, so half of the task was already done. Nothing more was necessary. The stunning result of this spontaneous collaboration between two fabulous musicians can be seen on this video. I was privileged to exclusively video the concert at St Andrews United reformed church Cheltenham on 25th April 2009. A truly fantastic concert which also featured the award winning classical guitarist Hayley Savage. Steve Toon makes superb Classical, Flamenco & Gypsy Jazz guitars - The Guitar Gordan is playing built by Steve was commissioned to Gordan's specifications using the "electrics" from Gorgan's line 6 variax guitar.
