For over a decade Heart Sounds International (HSI) has had the privilege of helping develop indigenous worship in various countries and cultures around the world. We believe it is just a small part of a very big thing that God is doing which will climax when "every tongue, tribe, and people" will turn to worship Him. SOUNDS OF GLOBAL WORSHIP: SUDAN, DINKA The US government has called the people of Southern Sudan the most persecuted people in the entire world. Although a connection with the Dinka tribal people was not a part of Heart Sound's scheduled Sudan recording project, we were thrilled and honored that in the last days that we heard of this Dinka choir in the city. As you can see, they were not the least bit distracted that we were present with microphones, cables and cameras. Nor were they focused on the discomfort of the very hot make-shift studio. Their pain and suffering had developed in them a hunger for worship, which had become their very life source, their food of survival. A gift is found in the impoverished and oppressed peoples of the world. They may be last in the kingdoms of this world, but we are increasingly aware that they are the first in another. SOUNDS OF GLOBAL WORSHIP: SOUTH AFRICA, JOHANNESBURG, ZULU Winds of freedom are blowing in South Africa in the very places that experienced the worst violence during Apartheid. In this small church on the outskirts of Johannesburg one will not find an array of instruments and equipment to enhance their worship like is the custom in the western church. All that is brought is their voice, body, and the deep well within their heart. We learn much from them. God is not interested in the abundance of things we bring to worship, rather the depth of our heart that is offered in worship. A significant link seems to be found between suffering and worship. SOUNDS OF GLOBAL WORSHIP: MONGOLIA, CONTEMPORARY One of the earliest churches to compose their own songs in Mongolia is represented in this video. As one of the first churches to be powerfully established in the country they have had great impact within Mongolia and to the Mongolian disapora scattered beyond their borders. One of Mongolia's premier Christian composers, Ganchimeg Feodor, is from this church and wrote this song as a prayer for her country. It is widely sung and used. This represents a contemporary style, but they also very much value their Mongolian cultural roots and often blend indigenous instruments and dance in their worship celebrations. SOUNDS OF GLOBAL WORSHIP: CENTRAL ASIA, TAJIKISTAN At one time much of Central Asia was under Russian control and, although they now have their independence, civil war has caused much suffering. Still, their beautiful cultural forms of music, dance and celebratration have remained strong. Spiritual interest is common, and the primary religious expression is Sunni Muslim of the Hanafite branch. Although small, a church has been birthed here and is learning to offer worship of their own heart sounds. You will hear this in the video, and you will see a blending of live worship along with the wonderful dancing from a local wedding celebration. SOUNDS OF GLOBAL WORSHIP: INDIA - THE DALIT STORY The caste system of India has produced a classless people, literally outcasts, called the Dalits, or untouchables. They number about 300000000, representing close to one-third of India's total population. If the Dalits were a nation, it would be larger than the United States of America and the fifth largest in the world. An incredible movement is taking place in which many Dalits are rejecting Hinduism, which is believed to be the cause of their condition, and in large numbers are embracing other religions, including Christianity. Although some churches are found among the Dalits, mostly this movement is in its infancy. Other videos in this series, Sounds of Global Worship, feature examples of the varied worship expressions found among these people. It is the desire of Heart Sounds International to help this emerging church develop its own indigenous worship forms. Of interest is the fact that many of India's artists and creative people come from among the Dalits, and we believe that in time these new Christian believers will compose many new songs of worship to the Lord. This video is an excerpt from a documentary that Heart Sounds completed by invitation of a ministry within India. The Moshakga Christian Assembly regularly includes "items" in their worship services. In the United States we would call this "special" music. The women are offering this song as an item. SOUNDS OF GLOBAL WORSHIP: INDIA: ASSAM, SANTHAL TRIBAL PEOPLE The Santhals of Assam, India are one of the tribal peoples of this area. They, along with the Bodos and Rabhas, also featured in this series on Sounds of Global Worship, have suffered greatly in the politically charged environment. However, God has birthed within them a wonderful expression of worship which has offered much strength. The song in this video is the Santhals' indigenous remembrance of the Christmas message accompanied with their own cultural dance. It is entitled "The Star is Shining" and has the following lyrics. SOUNDS OF GLOBAL WORSHIP: BRAZIL, SAMBA This video comes from the northern part of Brazil near the coastal city of Recife. It is the center of the historic slave trade that made its way into South America about 350 years ago. Although the trade no longer exists it has greatly affected the country of Brazil. Brazil is the fifth wealthiest country of the world, yet poverty is endemic with about one-third of its population living in "favelas" or slums. A large percentage of the people in the favelas are of "mixed blood" having roots in the African slave trade. The rhythms and music of the Africans have greatly influenced Brazil's music, and Samba is an example of this flavoring. Samba is the a heart music of the poorer people of Brazil and, as such, is often rejected by those of means. The church, too, has typically opposed the use of Samba due to its association with lewd practices. However, a number of Christian musical groups have "redeemed" this musical form, setting it to lyrics with a Christian message. The four young men in this video are a part of a ministry that is reaching into the favelas with the compassion and love of the gospel of Christ. They are a street band who use this Samba to attract the attention of those who love Samba music. Once drawn to the music, the lyrics suprise the listener with a different message than is normally heard. The growing worship expression by the churches which are forming within the favelas often incorporate Samba musical forms .... + Informações

SOUNDS OF GLOBAL WORSHIP: HIMALAYAS, NEPALI ORPHANAGE Ascending the heights of the Himalayas we discovered what must be one of God's dearest treasures. A Christian orphanage is located here that is home to many Nepali children and youth who would otherwise be homeless. That is treasure enough, but these children also rise with the sun every morning and see the sun down every evening while they offer beautiful heart-felt worship and prayers. Reports say that the sound of their voices from here reach the heavens but also reverberate all they way down the long Himalayan valleys giving light and hope to all who hear. We could not help but wonder how a God who is big enough to affect matters of an entire world can manage to find a way to reveal His love to these children in this very remote and isolated "roof of the world". It has served as a reminder to us that God specializes in finding all of us, especially in the most remote places of our hearts, lives and existence.
