Woodstock 1969 40th Anniversary - Glenn Weiser at Bethel Woods - Red House by Jim Hendrix 2.20 min. | 4.928571 avaliação | 3492 exibições Take Webcam guitar lessons via Skype with author and Acoustic Guitar magazine contributor Glenn Weiser. Styles taught include blues, Celtic, folk, bluegrass, rock lead, country and classical. Visit www.celticguitarmusic.com for more info. Notes to Song- On August 4, 2009, I returned for the first time in 40 years to the site of the 1969 Woodstock festival in Bethel, NY, which I had attended. I was accompanied by Marc Mahuzier, a reporter at large for the French daily Ouest-France, which circulates in the Brittany-Normany region. Mahuzier interviewed me about my experience at the Woodstock festival for a story which ran in the paper's August 15th edition, took pictures, and filmed me standing on the gravel patch where the stage had been playing Jimi Hendrix's Red House on acoustic guitar (too bad I played to an empty house, but hey, that's show biz). It felt strange being there-the former cow pasture where the largest concert audience ever assembled in one place once sat is now a kept lawn, looking more like a golf course than the place where the 1960s counterculture crested. But as I lingered, people came in a steady trickle to the Woodstock monument that sits on the northwest corner of the grounds to gaze upon the place where history was made and pay homage to the hippy ideals of peace and love. Mahuzier's full story can be read on my website at www.celticguitarmusic.com/Woodstock2009.htm -Glenn Weiser. + Informações |

Casey Jones - Grateful Dead performed by Glenn Weiser 4.48 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 579 exibições Casey Jones by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter, performed by Glenn Weiser on guitar, harmonica, electric bass and vocals. Many songs have written about the heroic Mississippi railway engineer who in 1900 died a heros' death in a head-on train collision slowing down his locomotive to save the passengers and crew in the oncoming train. According to Grateful Dead biographer Dennis McNally, Hunter had a dream in which he saw the words to the song written on a piece of paper. Garcia then set the verses to music. Here the harmonica begins with train sounds, you hear the train wreck, and then the acoustic fingerstyle arrangement begins.. + Informações |

Tennessee Jed - Grateteful Dead, performed by Glenn Weiser 7.75 min. | 0 avaliação | 234 exibições The original Tennessee Jed was the squirrel gun-packing hero of a 1940's Western radio program for kids. The Grateful Dead song of the same name was written by Jerry Garcia and lyricist Robert Hunter, who explained that "'Tennessee Jed' originated in Barcelona, Spain. Topped up on vino tinto, I composed it aloud to the sound of a jaw harp twanged between echoing building faces by someone strolling half a block ahead of me in the late summer twilight." The band started playing it in 1971, and it is featured on Europe 72." Here I fingerpick the song on an old Gibson acoustic guitar and add a harmonica solo towards the end.. + Informações |

Battle of Aughrim - Celtic Guitar - traditional Irish music 2.42 min. | 4.95461 avaliação | 162585 exibições This here is a traditional piece of Irish music entitled "The Battle of Aughrim", named for the bloodiest battle in Irish history in which the Jacobite Army was defeated by the Williamite army and, subsequently, Ireland fell into control of the English (12 July 1691). This arrangement is based on the one I learned from Glenn Weiser. I recorded another version on a nylon guitar that is a bit softer, but this is a passionate tune so perhaps it's more suitable on the steel string. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the best sound recording with my Camcorder so it's a learning process. Thanks for listening check my page for more.. + Informações |

Jock O'Hazeldean 2.70 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 476 exibições A Scotland/England border ballad, variously Jock or Jack, Hazeldean or Hazeldon. Accompaniment based on Glenn Weiser's arrangement in 'Celtic Guitar'. Beautiful words by Sir Walter Scott. The idea of a 'mettled hound' and 'managed hawk' being redolent of the privileged classes in the Middle Ages. A 'palfrey' is a term used to describe a horse of fine breeding. 'Caim' I imagine to be a forerunner of today's 'comb'. The original ballad is placed in the early 1700s, but it seems as if Scott's words harp back to an even earlier time. Some interpretations (which I endorse) have the slighted bridegroom as an English nobleman with Jock O'Hazeldean being a Scot (duh!), possibly also of noble birth. Used a Zoom Q3 with no enhancement, which is not to suggest that none is needed.. + Informações |
