Giuseppe di Stefano - Core 'ngrato (Live concert) 5.48 min. | 4.994709 avaliação | 72958 exibições Giuseppe di Stefano (24 July 1921 -- 3 March 2008) was an Italian operatic tenor whose career spanned from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. He was also known for his long association with Maria Callas, with whom he performed and recorded many times, and with whom he was briefly romantically involved. It is the opionion of many that di Stefano had perhaps the most beautiful natural voice of any tenor in recorded history. Of course he is also infamous for his regression in his technique; his consistent heavy pushing through the passaggio and beyond caused him to lose most of his vocal beauty by the late 60-early 70s. Here in a live concert sometime in the 1950s, Pippo sings the popular Italian song 'Core 'ngrato'. This is before his voice started to deteriorate, and one can clearly hear how beautiful it was in his early days. Rest in peace Maestro, we will miss you.. + Informações |

Of course he is also infamous for his regression in his technique; his consistent heavy pushing through the passaggio and beyond caused him to lose most of his vocal beauty by the late 60-early 70s. He sings here a rendition of 'Che gelida manina' from La Boheme. A well known 1950s studio recording. The voice is still beautiful here. Di Stefano's Che gelidas are the most satisfying renditions to my ears. In my opinion, he does even better Che gelidas in live performances. Rest in peace, Maestro.. + Informações |

Giuseppe di Stefano - E lucevan le stelle (Studio recording) 2.72 min. | 4.9142857 avaliação | 37909 exibições Giuseppe di Stefano (24 July 1921 - 3 March 2008) was an Italian operatic tenor whose career spanned from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. He was also known for his long association with Maria Callas, with whom he performed and recorded many times, and with whom he was briefly romantically involved. Of course he is also infamous for his regression in his technique; his consistent heavy pushing through the passaggio and beyond caused him to lose most of his vocal beauty by the late 60-early 70s. Here he sings the aria 'E lucevan le stelle' from Puccini's Tosca. This is a 1950s studio recording, his best studio version in my opinion. His best ever Tosca performance in my opinion was the live 1952 Mexico City one with Callas. The role of Mario Cavaradossi is usually meant for a lyrico-spinto/spinto voice, but if sung correctly, a lyric tenor can also produce an amazing effect. Di Stefano portrayed one of the best Marios of all time in my opinion, even though he was but a lyric tenor.. + Informações |

Lensky's Aria - Giuseppe di Stefano 6.37 min. | 4.6811595 avaliação | 16197 exibições Lensky's aria from Eugene Onegin "kuda vy udalilis" sung it Italian. from a live concert in Chicago. cir 1962 Sorry the sound isn't so good. As far as I know he never recorded this in a studio so this is kinda Rare. Selections from this broadcast are not presented as a definitive record of Mr. Di Stefanos art. This was a broadcast from late in his career when his voice was well past its prime. I present this only as a record of one of his later concerts. I agree that it is certainly not his best singing. However we can still hear something of his style and there are moments when it is still quite moving and there is quite an impressive use of dynamics. What cannot be captured on these or any recording is Di Stefanos great Presence on stage and his immediate and sometimes intimate report with an audience. Needless to say it takes more than a great voice to make a great artist.
