Ray Charles - In the Heat of the Night (HD) 2.35 min. | 4.894737 avaliação | 25523 exibições Ray Charles Robinson (September 23, 1930 -- June 10, 2004), better known by his shortened stage name Ray Charles, was an American musician. Ray was a pioneer in the genre of soul music during the 1950s by fusing rhythm & blues, gospel, and blues styles into his early recordings with Atlantic Records. He also helped racially integrate country and pop music during the 1960s with his crossover success on ABC Records, most notably with his Modern Sounds albums. While with ABC, Charles became one of the first African-American musicians to be given artistic control by a mainstream record company. Rolling Stone ranked Charles number 10 on their list of "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" in 2004, and number two on their November 2008 list of "100 Greatest Singers of All Time". In honoring Charles, Billy Joel noted: "This may sound like sacrilege, but I think Ray Charles was more important than Elvis Presley. I don't know if Ray was the architect of rock & roll, but he was certainly the first guy to do a lot of things . . . Who the hell ever put so many styles together and made it work? Ray Charles Robinson was the son of Aretha Williams, a sharecropper, and Bailey Robinson, a railroad repair man, mechanic and handyman. Aretha Williams was a devout Christian and the family attended the New Shiloh Baptist Church. When Ray was an infant, his family moved from Albany, Georgia, where he was born, to the poor black community of Jellyroll on the western side of Greenville, Florida. In .... + Informações |

TheSecretMoneyMakers.com The Louisiana Hayride (KWKH ~ 4 ~ 8/27/1960), Part I On a Saturday night in 1948, Hank Williams stepped onto the stage of The Louisiana Hayride and sang Lovesick Blues. Until then, Williams' yodeling style had been classified as hillbilly music and it was virtually omitted from the mainstream music realm. Taking a chance on this unproven artist, The Louisiana Hayride, a radio country music show like the Grand Ole Opry, not only helped Williams get his career underway, but went on to launch the careers of some of the greatest names in American music. From its premiere in 1948 to its final show in 1960, the Hayride was the starting point for many artists such as country music giants Jim Reeves, Webb Pierce, Kitty Wells, Johnny Cash, Hank Snow and George Jones. Through the years, the Hayride roster included other well known genre crossing performers such as a young, singer named Elvis Presley, the future King of Rock and Roll. During its heyday (1950 ~ 1959), the Hayride surpassed the Grand Ole Opry in terms of its impact on discovering and promoting new and established artist. The Louisiana Hayride was a radio "barn dance" program and later television country music show, which was broadcast live from the Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Hayride was instrumental in transforming old-fashioned music into a modern exclusive sound that became sort of a brand for country .... + Informações |

Bobby Whitlock & CoCo Carmel - "John The Revelator": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist 6.48 min. | 4.428571 avaliação | 1338 exibições Bobby Whitlock is perhaps most well known for being a member of the band Derek & The Dominos, recording and co-producing one of Rock and Rolls most important records in history "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs". He remains the only true writing partner of Eric Clapton, writing memorable songs such as "Tell the Truth", "Keep on Growing", " I Looked Away", "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad", "Anyday" and "Roll It Over". He represents the true southern blues/soul singer, which is exactly what Eric Clapton needed after the Delaney & Bonnie experience. Bobby had songwriting skills that Eric also admired which me mentions in the introduction of Bobby's recently released autobiography. From his time at Stax hanging with Albert King, listening to The Staple Singers record "Long Walk to DC", becoming the first white artist on their HIP Label, to being the original "Friend" with Delaney & Bonnie, to Derek & The Dominos, being part of the core band for George Harrisons massive hit record "All Things Must Pass", Bobby Whitlock's life is rich in history. He and Eric, along with Carl Radle and Jim Gordon were the core band for the most successful solo record by a Beatle, George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass". "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" celebrated its 40th year in 2011and is considered to be one of the most influential groundbreaking records in the history of rock-n-roll. In 1998 Derek & the Dominos' "Layla" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and in 2000, Derek .... + Informações |

Purchase DVD Today @ Black American Cinema.org 9.35 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 24254 exibições Purchase The Best of The Flip Wilson Show Today @ Black American Cinema.org www.blackamericancinema.org The Flip Wilson Show was a variety show that aired in the US on NBC from September 17, 1970 to June 27, 1974. The show starred American comedian Flip Wilson; the program was one of the first American television programs starring a black person in the title role to become highly successful with a white audience. Specifically, it was the first successful network variety series starring an African American.[1] During its first two seasons, its Nielsen ratings made it the nation's second most watched show. The show consisted of many skits over an hour. It also broke new ground in American television by using a 'Theatre-in-the-Round' stage format, with the audience seated on all sides of a circular performance area (with some seats located behind the sketch sets on occasion). Wilson was most famous for creating the role of Geraldine Jones, a sassy, modern woman who had a boyfriend named Killer (who, when not in prison, was at the pool hall). Flip also created the role of Reverend Leroy, who was the minister of the Church of What's Happening Now!. New parishioners were wary of coming to the church as it was hinted that Reverend Leroy was a con artist. Flip popularized such catch phrases as "What you see is what you get," and "The devil made me do it!". In addition to the skits, Flip Wilson also signed many popular singers to provide entertainment. Cajun Moon 3.92 min. | 4.6 avaliação | 19433 exibições Stereo: www.youtube.com Buck Norris sings Cajun Moon by Ricky Skaggs. Skaggs began playing music at a very early age, being given a mandolin from his father at the age of five. Before his father had the time to teach Ricky how to play, the child had learned the instrument himself, and by the end of 1959, he had performed on-stage during a Bill Monroe concert, playing "Ruby Are You Mad at Your Man" to great acclaim. Two years later, when Skaggs was seven, he appeared on Flatt & Scruggs' television show, again to a positive response. Shortly afterward, he learned how to play both fiddle and guitar and began playing with his parents in a group called the Skaggs Family. In addition to traditional bluegrass, Skaggs began absorbing the honky tonk of George Jones and Ray Price and the British Invasion rock & roll of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. In his adolescence, he briefly played in rock & roll bands, but he never truly abandoned traditional and roots music. During a talent concert in his midteens, he met Keith Whitley, a fellow fiddler. The two adolescents became friends and began playing together, with Whitley's brother Dwight on banjo, at various radio shows. By 1970, they earned a spot opening for Ralph Stanley. Following their performance, Stanley invited the duo to join his supporting band, the Clinch Mountain Boys, and they accepted. Over the next two years, they played many concerts with the bluegrass legend and appeared on his record Cry From the Cross. Skaggs .... + Informações |
