World War I ukulele cover: Pack Up Your Troubles/Tipperary 2.07 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 5174 exibições I love the language in these old songs, even if I don't fully understand them. From Wikipedia: "Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag, and Smile, Smile, Smile" is the full name of a World War I marching song, published in 1915 in London. It was written by George Henry Powell under the pseudonym of "George Asaf", and set to music by his brother Felix Powell. A play presented by the National Theatre recounts how these music hall stars rescued the song from their rejects pile and re-scored it to win a wartime competition for a marching song. It became very popular, boosting British morale despite the horrors of that war. It was one of a large number of music hall songs aimed at maintaining morale, recruiting for the forces, or defending Britain's war aims. "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" is a British music hall and marching song written by Jack Judge (and co-credited but not co-written by Harry Williams (Henry James Williams)) that, allegedly, was written for a 5 shilling bet in Stalybridge, on the 30 January 1912 and performed the next night at the local music hall. Judge's parents were Irish, and his grandparents came from Tipperary.. + Informações |

ANTHONY NEWLEY - "Pack Up Your Troubles" 1961 2.80 min. | 5.0 avaliação | 426 exibições !!! A present for all NewleyPhiles !!! 1961 - the song was released on the album "Tony", before starting with "Stop the World..." A young (29) Anthony Newley sang with a fresh voice: "...What's the use of worrying It never was worth while,so Pack up your troubles in your old kit-bag And smile, smile, smile...." WHY he had chosen this remarkable WW I song (by George Henry Powell aka Asaf)) which was very popular in music hall - and with these lyrics . A choice of his heart , background, preferences or as a motto of his then life ? There were no things to come (as some say) in his oeuvre. Every period of his work was unique and fascinating and in the end perfect and part of the whole puzzle - called Anthony Newley ! And content ID (music) again !!! 12-string Guitar: Pack Up Your Troubles (Including lyrics and chords) 4.28 min. | 4.8333335 avaliação | 4158 exibições Another request for Hayley (checkattitude) this time for a song dating back to 1915 and the First World War. As you know millions died on both sides during that 'War to end all wars', but despite the horrors of the trenches, young men were encouraged to 'enlist'. To make light of the horrors, patriotic songs such as this were encouraged by the powers that be and this song became one of the best known from the Allied side in that awful period. In common with many I am sure, I only really knew the chorus before looking for this song and was quite surprised to find that there are three verses that go with it. Unlike Daisy Bell (A Bicycle Built For Two), I have been able to work out a chord progression for this song, so here it is. I apologise for the use of the term Bosche, but it is part of the song and is the nickname given to German troops by the Allies at the time. Wikipedia has the following information as to the origins of the song: "Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag, and Smile, Smile, Smile" is the full name of a World War I marching song, published in 1915 in London. It was written by George Henry Powell under the pseudonym of "George Asaf", and set to music by his brother Felix Powell. CLIMATE CHANGE & BIOFUELS UN ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME (UNEP) (UNTV) 2.18 min. | 0 avaliação | 333 exibições NetworkNewsToday: 16 December 2009 - UNEP - UNTV: A recent UN report said that substituting petrol with biofuels such as ethanol from sugar cane can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 70 per cent. The report, produced by the UN Environment Programmes (UNEP) International Panel for Sustainable Resource Management to assess the climate impact of biofuels, also found that not all biofuel production has a positive impact on emissions. Achim Steiner, head of UNEP, said that risks associated with the production are often overlooked and its ultimate contribution to solving the greenhouse problem is overestimated. SOUNDBITE (English) Achim Steiner, Executive Director, UN Environment Programme (UNEP): Biofuels like any new technology, in inverted commas, always suffers the risk that as one looks at its potential one overestimates its ultimate contribution to solving a problem. Clearing tropical forests for biodiesel crops, for instance, leads to far greater carbon emissions than those saved by substituting biofuel for fossil fuel in cars. Aside from deforestation and loss of habitat for animals, critics have long feared that energy crops are threatening food security especially when agricultural land is increasingly used for biofuel crop production. Just last year, UNEP estimated that worldwide land use for biofuel crops was about two percent of global cropland. The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), which recently co-hosted a conference on renewable energy .... + Informações |

Affirmation 5.32 min.
